Rarotonga is the main island in the Cook Islands, and is the home of the international airport and seat of government.

Rarotonga is known as a high island and was formed from a long-dormant underwater volcano. On Rarotonga, you can join a mountain trek across the island (there is no road over the mountains!),  explore the marine life in the reef (snorkelling and diving are amazing around Rarotonga!), go whale watching (in season), or take a sailing yacht or motor boat tour of the islands and lagoons.

You can take an island tour and visit the neat villages and picturesque beaches that are spread around the island. It only takes about an hour to drive right round the island, but you'll find so many wonderful distractions on the way, it could take you days!

A brand new attraction is the Te Vara Nui Village, a traditionally built Polynesian village, that offers a unique interactive cultural experience.  Named after a beautiful Rarotongan Maiden, Te Vara, who performed throughout the Pacific, the Village has been created to allow locals and visitors to relive the memories, traditions and the history of the Cook Islands culture.  Tours showcase local artisans and craftspeople exibiting traditional crafts, such as carving, weaving, making traditional costumes and cooking local foods.  Interaction is a key theme and guests are invited to join in and learning the Cook Islands way.  In the evening, they perform an amazing Island show with flaming torches and dancers and musicians on floating and fixed stages throughout the waterfall gardens, preceeded by a traditional Umu Kai buffet.  An experience not to be missed.

Most of the hotels and Resorts have at least 1 on site restaurant, but some properties, especially the smaller or villa/self-catering properties may not.  Whether your chosen property has a restaurant or not, there are many other dining options, more than 50 different choices, on the island to tempt you.  Click HERE for more information.

We can also offer a 'Dine Around the Island' package, which will include dining at a variety of restaurants around the Resorts and the island, plus accommodation for 5-, 6- or 7-nights, meet and greet arrival service, return airport transfers, daily tropical breakfast, early check-in (6-night package only - 5 and 7 nights it can be added at cost), complimentary island discovery tour (Tues & Thurs), Highland Paradise Sunset Island night dinner, & dining vouchers (max value NZ$60 per person) - 4 vouchers on 5 night package, 5 vouchers for 6 night package and 6 vouchers for 7 night package.  Please see the Resort pages for properties participating in the Dine Around Package offer.
