The Rarotonga Beach Resort is one of the Cook islands oldest and largest resort hotels, situated on the south-west coast, right on the beach in a palm grove with lush tropical gardens, overlooking the daily-manicured Aroa beach and the lagoon with sunset views over the ocean beyond.
This 157 room property offers a variety of accomodations, from pleasant Garden Rooms up to spacious Suites and 1- and 2-bedroom Bungalows, and all only a few steps from the lovely beach and glorious Aroa Lagoon.
Garden rooms are centrally located in the gardens and just a short stroll to the beach, and the Beachfront rooms are at the far western end of the resort, facing right on the beach. Both room types offer ensuite facilities with a separate toilet with walk-in shower and a vanity/dressing area, 1 King or 2 Twin beds, comfy lounge area with sofa, TV and table and chairs, and either a private patio or balcony. The Suites are more spacious than the rooms, with ensuite bathroom with separate toilet/shower room and vanity area, 1 King or 2 Twin beds (or 2 double bunks on request), lounge area with sofa, TV, and table and chairs, either private patio or balcony, and some even have private outdoor shower, kitchen, dining area and private raised sundecks. The 2-Bedroom Beachside Suite offers the same amenities as the 1-bed Suite, but with the addition of an extra bedroom, extra space in the lounge area and a small kitchenette. The 4 Grand Beachfront Suites are ideal for families as they have enough space and beds for 3 adults (rollaway bed - fee) or 2 adults and up to 4 children (extra beds free). The Suites offer a Californian King bed, plus a bunk and sofa bed in the lounge area, ensuite bathroom with spa bath with shower and a separate outdoor courtyard shower, a full kitchen featuring a breakfast bar, microwave, cooker, fridge/freezer and coffee maker, dining table and chairs, spacious lounge with TV, music system, sofas and chairs opening out onto a private verandah with direct access to the beach, plus a huge raised private sundeck with great views of Aroa Beach and the lagoon. The newest addition to their accommodation is the 3-Bedroom Pool Villa, which offers 3 separate bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (2 ensuite), kitchen, dining and sitting room, large games/sunroom and private enclosed gardens with gazebo, furnished sun deck and 11m x 5m private pool, ideal for large groups or families to share together.
There are many different restaurants at the Resort to choose from, depending on your mood. Te Vaka Restaurant, for breakfast and dinner on an outdoor deck out over the water, with great views, live entertainment and themed dinner nights; Captain Andy's Beach Bar and Grill, offering chargrill and seafood specials and relaxed poolside lunches; Treetops Verandah Room, ideal for weddings, groups and small private parties; the Reef Fish Cafe, with a colourful tropical fish and sealife theme, offering relaxed island style dining, and the Hibiscus Hut, offering smoothies, ice creams, cakes, sandwiches and salads. There are also themed dinner evenings, offering a varied selection, such as Seafood Buffet or Flame Grilled Steak night, and for the very romantic, private candlelight dinners can be arranged on the beach, or under a private gazebo.
The Resort offers a fitness centre, tennis court, beauty salon, Spa Polynesia, Moko's Kids Club with treetop Clubhouse, gift shop, large waterfall pool, and offer many complimentary activities, such as outrigger canoes, hand fish feeding, guided nature & village walks, beach volleyball, pool waterpolo, and some of the best snorkelling in the area, day and night, guided or independant, at the Aroa Lagoon Marine Reserve.
The Rarotonga Beach Resort is ideal for families and those young-at-heart travellers looking for a resort with a buzzy, fun, party atmosphere but in a tropical beachside setting.

Currently, there are very limited International flight connections to and from the Cook islands. All international flights operate into Rarotonga and there are domestic connection flights into Aitutaki, Atiu and Mangaia.
The main international carrier is Air New Zealand, with direct air service provided six days a week from and to Auckland (currently there is no flight on a Friday), and once a week to and from Los Angeles, currently departing Rarotonga on a Friday arriving LA on the Saturday. The return flight leaves LA on Saturday and arrives Rarotonga on Sunday morning. They operate on a new B777-200ER aircraft, with 26 Business, 40 Premium Economy and 246 Economy seats. The Premium Economy seats are the first to be offered on this route.
There is also a year round once a week flight with Air New Zealand between Rarotonga and Sydney, departing Rarotonga on Thursday arriving Sydney on Friday and departing Sydney on Friday arriving in Rarotonga on Friday, operating on a B767-300 aircraft, with 24 Business and 206 Economy seats.
Virgin Australia operate 3 days a week from Auckland to Rarotonga, using a 737 aircraft, departing Auckland on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, arriving in Rarotonga the previous day (as you cross the International dateline), and returning flights Tuesday, Thursday and Friday arriving two days later (cross the International dateline again in the other direction adding a day, plus arriving after midnight into the next day) (schedule as of 15/10/15, subject to change without notice).
Also, for the winter months, (June-October 2016), they will be operating a direct flight Christchurch, on New Zealand's South Island, to Rarotonga. Departing on Saturday and arriving in Rarotonga on Friday (cross the date line), and returning the same day, Friday to arrive back in Christchurch on Sunday (date line and midnight time crossing), this will save visitors having to travel up to Auckland to get to the Cook Islands.
Jetstar,
a new airline starting in New Zealand, started a new flight
schedule from Auckland to Rarotonga in March 2016. At
present, they are planning to operate from and to Auckland on
Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday, with the return flight being the same
days, due to arriving and departing after midnight, and will arrive
back in Auckland the following days, due to crossing the
international dateline.
Air Tahiti
operate up to twice weekly flights from Papeete, Tahiti to
Rarotonga, currently on a Saturday and Thursday. However,
on most weeks they only operate the
Thursday flight!
All
domestic flights within the Cook islands are operate by Air Rarotonga. Their main route
is Rarotonga to Aitutaki, on which they operate up to five daily
services, except Sunday, when only one is operated (up till the end
of 2009 no flights were permitted to operate domestically on a
Sunday).
They also provide frequent services to the other main islands in
the Southern group. However, air access to the Northern group
is currently very restricted, to the point where it is almost
impossible for tourists to book flights, due to the limited seats
that are offered. Quite a lot of the time, the
seats are reserved for Government officials and the local residence
of the Northern islands.
Airline Seat Maps
For most airlines, we can pre-reserve seats for you once your flight booking is confirmed, and will do so as a matter of course. If you would like to have a look at a seat plan for your aircraft, you can check the airlines' own website, or one of the best independent websites for this information is SeatGuru.com, which is part of the Tripadvisor group.
