Located right on the beach on the island's southern coast, overlooking the gorgeous Titikaveka Lagoon, the adults-only Motu Beach Art Villas, formally the Royale Takitumu Villas, offer one of the better self-catering holiday properties to be found in the Cook Islands. The resort has recently partnered with the Pacific Resort Hotel Group, who planned a full refurbishment of all the villas and re-landscaping of the tropical gardens, which has just been completed (2019).
The property has just 10 Polynesian-inspired detached villas set in 1.3 acres of beautifully designed and maintained beachfront tropical water gardens, with meandering lilly ponds and waterfalls. They offer very spacious accommodation in 3 room categories; Lagoon View Villas, Honeymoon Beachfront Villas and VIP Beachfront Villas. Each have a large separate, air-conditioned bedroom with a Superking bed, a full size ensuite bathroom with a 2 person spa bath with shower over, and a spacious living room with a well equiped kitchenette, with fridge/freezer, microwave and cooker, dining table and sitting area and sliding door opening to a private furnished deck with views of the lagoon over the gardens or the beachfront. The VIP villas are more spacious inside and have a larger outside deck area facing directly onto the beach.
As part of the reception area, there is a lounge for guests which overlooks the swimming pool. It is here that morning tea is served and the weekly guest and staff BBQ is held. The Resort does not have its own Restaurant, but they do provide you with a tropical breakfast basket on arrival and a room service breakfast and lunch menu is available, along with a BBQ for guest's use. For those guests who do not want to cook for every meal, there are two or three restaurants that are in close walking distance and are open for the serving of all meals. Also, the island is so small that driving to any of the many restaurants is only a 10 to 15 minute journey. The staff at the Royal Takitumu Villas will be pleased to recommend a selection to serve every palate and taste. Click here for information on a small selection of dining establishments on the island.
Swimming and snorkelling is one of the big draws here, being on the beautiful Titikaveka Lagoon, and although this section of pristine beach is public, most of the time, you feel like you and the other guests have the beach to yourselves. Kayaks and snorkelling equipment is complimentary, and with the living coral reef a short distance off shore creating a wide, sheltered lagoon, the snorkelling is amazing. If you want fresh water, the 11m fresh water swimming pool, surrounded by a sun deck and loungers, is in the gardens, just a short stroll to the beach. And for exploring, the resort has recently invested in 4 E-Bikes which are complimentary for guests use, an E-van for the resort, or the staff can arrange car or scooter hire, and advise and book tours and excursion for you.
The recent refurbishment and upgrade (2019) has greatly improved the quality and feel of the accommodation, which now matches its great location, and in its very tranquil tropical garden setting, the Motu Beach Art Villas offer a truly relaxing and stylish temporary home from which to experience the magic of the Cook Islands.
The Royal Takitumi Villas participates in the 'Dine Around the Island' special offer, with 5, 6 and 7 night packages. Please contact us for further information and prices

Currently, there are very limited International flight connections to and from the Cook islands. All international flights operate into Rarotonga and there are domestic connection flights into Aitutaki, Atiu and Mangaia.
The main international carrier is Air New Zealand, with direct air service provided six days a week from and to Auckland (currently there is no flight on a Friday), and once a week to and from Los Angeles, currently departing Rarotonga on a Friday arriving LA on the Saturday. The return flight leaves LA on Saturday and arrives Rarotonga on Sunday morning. They operate on a new B777-200ER aircraft, with 26 Business, 40 Premium Economy and 246 Economy seats. The Premium Economy seats are the first to be offered on this route.
There is also a year round once a week flight with Air New Zealand between Rarotonga and Sydney, departing Rarotonga on Thursday arriving Sydney on Friday and departing Sydney on Friday arriving in Rarotonga on Friday, operating on a B767-300 aircraft, with 24 Business and 206 Economy seats.
Virgin Australia operate 3 days a week from Auckland to Rarotonga, using a 737 aircraft, departing Auckland on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, arriving in Rarotonga the previous day (as you cross the International dateline), and returning flights Tuesday, Thursday and Friday arriving two days later (cross the International dateline again in the other direction adding a day, plus arriving after midnight into the next day) (schedule as of 15/10/15, subject to change without notice).
Also, for the winter months, (June-October 2016), they will be operating a direct flight Christchurch, on New Zealand's South Island, to Rarotonga. Departing on Saturday and arriving in Rarotonga on Friday (cross the date line), and returning the same day, Friday to arrive back in Christchurch on Sunday (date line and midnight time crossing), this will save visitors having to travel up to Auckland to get to the Cook Islands.
Jetstar,
a new airline starting in New Zealand, started a new flight
schedule from Auckland to Rarotonga in March 2016. At
present, they are planning to operate from and to Auckland on
Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday, with the return flight being the same
days, due to arriving and departing after midnight, and will arrive
back in Auckland the following days, due to crossing the
international dateline.
Air Tahiti
operate up to twice weekly flights from Papeete, Tahiti to
Rarotonga, currently on a Saturday and Thursday. However,
on most weeks they only operate the
Thursday flight!
All
domestic flights within the Cook islands are operate by Air Rarotonga. Their main route
is Rarotonga to Aitutaki, on which they operate up to five daily
services, except Sunday, when only one is operated (up till the end
of 2009 no flights were permitted to operate domestically on a
Sunday).
They also provide frequent services to the other main islands in
the Southern group. However, air access to the Northern group
is currently very restricted, to the point where it is almost
impossible for tourists to book flights, due to the limited seats
that are offered. Quite a lot of the time, the
seats are reserved for Government officials and the local residence
of the Northern islands.
Airline Seat Maps
For most airlines, we can pre-reserve seats for you once your flight booking is confirmed, and will do so as a matter of course. If you would like to have a look at a seat plan for your aircraft, you can check the airlines' own website, or one of the best independent websites for this information is SeatGuru.com, which is part of the Tripadvisor group.
