Situated on the island's south coast in the village of Vaima, the Palm Grove Resort is built either side of the quiet coastal road. The reception, restaurant/bar and swimming pool along with 13 Garden Studio and Garden 1-Bed Superior Bungalows are situated in well maintained gardens on the island-side of the road. Across the road, situated right on the beach are 12 large Beachfront Studio Bungalows.
The Palm Grove recently completed a refurbishment of their rooms, which included the addition of a 32" flat screen TV, new beds with new pillow-top mattresses (regular King or Super-King mattress not split Kings as previously available), and new interior fixtures. They have also installed new kitchens, new bathrooms, replaced flooring, decks and furniture, and refurbished the pool, cabana and BBQ area. In total, they have invested $500,000FJD into the updated resort.
The Garden Studios offer one King bed, shower/WC, a full kitchen, ceiling fan, 32" flat screen TV, radio, telephone and a furnished patio with garden and pool views. The 1-Bed Superior (Garden) Bungalows are slightly larger with a separate bedroom area and have tropical garden and panoramic mountain views. The Beachfront Studio bungalows offer a king-sized bed, a full kitchen including a microwave, ceiling fan, hairdryer, radio, a 32" flat screen TV, telephone and a private furnished deck overlooking the beach. And
In addition to the Garden Studios and Beachfront Bungalows, the Palm Grove has 3 homes or villas for larger families or groups who wish to stay together, with 2 or 3 separate bedrooms, private garden with covered furnished deck and BBQ, spacious living and dining room and well equipped kitchen. There is a 2-bedroom Garden bungalow, which sleeps up to 5 (with single daybed in lounge), and a 3-bedroom house, which sleeps up to 6, both in the main resort, and a 3-bedroom Beach Villa right on the beach which also has an extra single day bed, and can sleep 8.
The Palm Grove happily accepts children of all ages, but does not allow children under 5 years of age in the beach bungalows
The Yellow Hibiscus Restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner, has weekly specials and a Sunday Barbecue with steak, fresh salads and desserts, and live entertainment. As all the rooms have kitchens, self catering is an option and there is a well stocked supermarket just a short walk away. Friday nights have a Happy Hour between 4.30-6.00pm where guests get free drinks.
The hotel offers complementary snorkelling equipment, reef shoes and canoes, and a freshwater pool for a change from the beautiful beach and shallow lagoon infront of the resort. Wi-Fi is available for a fee and there are also motor bikes and bicycles available for rent by the hour or day so that you can go exploring!
For a good 3* property, we feel that the Palm Grove offers exceptional value for those clients looking for a beach front location and pleasant accommodation. Its friendly, laid-back atmosphere compliments the peace and tranquillity of the area and will provide you with a perfect location from which to enjoy all that Rarotonga has to offer.

Currently, there are very limited International flight connections to and from the Cook islands. All international flights operate into Rarotonga and there are domestic connection flights into Aitutaki, Atiu and Mangaia.
The main international carrier is Air New Zealand, with direct air service provided six days a week from and to Auckland (currently there is no flight on a Friday), and once a week to and from Los Angeles, currently departing Rarotonga on a Friday arriving LA on the Saturday. The return flight leaves LA on Saturday and arrives Rarotonga on Sunday morning. They operate on a new B777-200ER aircraft, with 26 Business, 40 Premium Economy and 246 Economy seats. The Premium Economy seats are the first to be offered on this route.
There is also a year round once a week flight with Air New Zealand between Rarotonga and Sydney, departing Rarotonga on Thursday arriving Sydney on Friday and departing Sydney on Friday arriving in Rarotonga on Friday, operating on a B767-300 aircraft, with 24 Business and 206 Economy seats.
Virgin Australia operate 3 days a week from Auckland to Rarotonga, using a 737 aircraft, departing Auckland on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, arriving in Rarotonga the previous day (as you cross the International dateline), and returning flights Tuesday, Thursday and Friday arriving two days later (cross the International dateline again in the other direction adding a day, plus arriving after midnight into the next day) (schedule as of 15/10/15, subject to change without notice).
Also, for the winter months, (June-October 2016), they will be operating a direct flight Christchurch, on New Zealand's South Island, to Rarotonga. Departing on Saturday and arriving in Rarotonga on Friday (cross the date line), and returning the same day, Friday to arrive back in Christchurch on Sunday (date line and midnight time crossing), this will save visitors having to travel up to Auckland to get to the Cook Islands.
Jetstar,
a new airline starting in New Zealand, started a new flight
schedule from Auckland to Rarotonga in March 2016. At
present, they are planning to operate from and to Auckland on
Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday, with the return flight being the same
days, due to arriving and departing after midnight, and will arrive
back in Auckland the following days, due to crossing the
international dateline.
Air Tahiti
operate up to twice weekly flights from Papeete, Tahiti to
Rarotonga, currently on a Saturday and Thursday. However,
on most weeks they only operate the
Thursday flight!
All
domestic flights within the Cook islands are operate by Air Rarotonga. Their main route
is Rarotonga to Aitutaki, on which they operate up to five daily
services, except Sunday, when only one is operated (up till the end
of 2009 no flights were permitted to operate domestically on a
Sunday).
They also provide frequent services to the other main islands in
the Southern group. However, air access to the Northern group
is currently very restricted, to the point where it is almost
impossible for tourists to book flights, due to the limited seats
that are offered. Quite a lot of the time, the
seats are reserved for Government officials and the local residence
of the Northern islands.
Airline Seat Maps
For most airlines, we can pre-reserve seats for you once your flight booking is confirmed, and will do so as a matter of course. If you would like to have a look at a seat plan for your aircraft, you can check the airlines' own website, or one of the best independent websites for this information is SeatGuru.com, which is part of the Tripadvisor group.
