If you are looking for a self-catering experience for your stay in the Cook Islands, then you will not be disappointed with the recently refurbished and upgraded Lagoon Breeze Villas. Situated 5 miles from the airport on the southwest corner of the island, just across the road from the beautiful Aroa Beach, the resort is set in lush tropical gardens with well-trimmed lawns, that include two swimming pools and childrens' playground with trampoline, swing and climbing fort with slide.
The accommodation is offered in 18 recently refurbished bungalows,
sleeping from 1-5 adults/children. They offer 4 room categories;
Garden Studio, 1-Bed Villa, 2-Bed Ground Level Villa and 2-Bed 2
Level Villa.
The 6 semi-detached Garden Studios are located in the tropical gardens close to the pool and just a short walk to the beach. They offer an open-plan room with 1 double/Queen bed and 1 single bed (on request), ensuite shower room with hairdryer and complimentary toiletries, sitting area, dining area, ceiling fans, air conditioning, IDD telephone, in-room safe, Wi-Fi internet access, a small but well-equipped kitchen, louvered windows with insect screens, and sliding patio doors opening to a private furnished deck overlooking the lawns, gardens and pool. Fresh water is UV filtered to all the villas, and complimentary bottled water is in each fridge. Daily room service is provided every day except Sunday
The 6 semi-detached 1-Bed Villas are located just across the gardens from the Garden Studios, close to the Breakfast cafe and playground, but still just a short stroll to the beach. They offer 1 double/Queen bed or 2 single beds in a separate bedroom and 1 double or 2 single beds in the large open plan main room, which also has a sitting area, dining table and chairs, good size kitchen, and the same amenities as the Garden Studios. The 2 detached 2-bed Ground Level Villas are located at the front of the resort with views of the gardens and the sea through the trees. They offer 2 separate bedrooms, both on the ground floor, with 1 king bed (or 2 singles) in the master bedroom with an ensuite toilet, and 3 single beds (or 1 King + 1 single) in the second bedroom, a spacious shower room with corner shower, large vanity, hairdryer complimentary toiletries and a side door to the deck, a large open plan living room with sitting area, dining area and kitchen with 2-ring gas hob, full size fridge/freezer, oven, microwave and kettle, and 4 bi-folding doors opening to a private furnished deck with views of the gardens and through the trees to the sea, plus all the standard amenities. The 4 detached 2-Bed 2 Level Villas are the same as the Ground Level 2-Bed Villas, except the master bedroom is the upper level with a king bed, private balcony and ensuite shower room and the 2nd bedroom is on the ground floor with 3 single beds (or 1 King + 1 single) and a 2nd ensuite shower room, plus all the standard amenities of the other 2-bed villas.
Although the villas are designed to be self-catering, the resort does provide a complimentary tropical breakfast each morning in the breakfast cafe, which serves a selection of fresh fruits, cereals, fresh juices, tea, coffee, toast and preserves. The cafe also has a small bar with daily happy hour drinks. There are a few local shops and restaurants just a short walk away, to restock your kitchen or eat out, and the main town centre is a short 15 minute drive away with bigger stores and more shopping and restaurant options.
There is a lovely fresh-water pool with separate toddlers pool, and large raised sundeck with loungers and umbrellas, a guest laundry with clothes lines around the gardens, 3 guest BBQ areas, a small shop, a childrens' playground with trampoline, swing and climbing fort with slide, a guest library with books, board games and outdoor games, small merchandise shop, complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access and a computor for guests use in reception, kayaks, and complimentary use of beach towels, snorkelling equipment, flippers and reef shoes. Complimentary scuba lessons are available in the pool (on request) and there is a tour desk that can hire scooters, cars or bikes, and arrange tours and excursions around, and off, the island.
Although there are many self catering properties to choose from in
the Cook Islands, all of which will provide you with an enjoyable
stay, we feel that the Lagoon Breeze Villas are in the top thr,
delivering the very best in great value self catering holidays in
the Cook Islands.

Currently, there are very limited International flight connections to and from the Cook islands. All international flights operate into Rarotonga and there are domestic connection flights into Aitutaki, Atiu and Mangaia.
The main international carrier is Air New Zealand, with direct air service provided six days a week from and to Auckland (currently there is no flight on a Friday), and once a week to and from Los Angeles, currently departing Rarotonga on a Friday arriving LA on the Saturday. The return flight leaves LA on Saturday and arrives Rarotonga on Sunday morning. They operate on a new B777-200ER aircraft, with 26 Business, 40 Premium Economy and 246 Economy seats. The Premium Economy seats are the first to be offered on this route.
There is also a year round once a week flight with Air New Zealand between Rarotonga and Sydney, departing Rarotonga on Thursday arriving Sydney on Friday and departing Sydney on Friday arriving in Rarotonga on Friday, operating on a B767-300 aircraft, with 24 Business and 206 Economy seats.
Virgin Australia operate 3 days a week from Auckland to Rarotonga, using a 737 aircraft, departing Auckland on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, arriving in Rarotonga the previous day (as you cross the International dateline), and returning flights Tuesday, Thursday and Friday arriving two days later (cross the International dateline again in the other direction adding a day, plus arriving after midnight into the next day) (schedule as of 15/10/15, subject to change without notice).
Also, for the winter months, (June-October 2016), they will be operating a direct flight Christchurch, on New Zealand's South Island, to Rarotonga. Departing on Saturday and arriving in Rarotonga on Friday (cross the date line), and returning the same day, Friday to arrive back in Christchurch on Sunday (date line and midnight time crossing), this will save visitors having to travel up to Auckland to get to the Cook Islands.
Jetstar,
a new airline starting in New Zealand, started a new flight
schedule from Auckland to Rarotonga in March 2016. At
present, they are planning to operate from and to Auckland on
Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday, with the return flight being the same
days, due to arriving and departing after midnight, and will arrive
back in Auckland the following days, due to crossing the
international dateline.
Air Tahiti
operate up to twice weekly flights from Papeete, Tahiti to
Rarotonga, currently on a Saturday and Thursday. However,
on most weeks they only operate the
Thursday flight!
All
domestic flights within the Cook islands are operate by Air Rarotonga. Their main route
is Rarotonga to Aitutaki, on which they operate up to five daily
services, except Sunday, when only one is operated (up till the end
of 2009 no flights were permitted to operate domestically on a
Sunday).
They also provide frequent services to the other main islands in
the Southern group. However, air access to the Northern group
is currently very restricted, to the point where it is almost
impossible for tourists to book flights, due to the limited seats
that are offered. Quite a lot of the time, the
seats are reserved for Government officials and the local residence
of the Northern islands.
Airline Seat Maps
For most airlines, we can pre-reserve seats for you once your flight booking is confirmed, and will do so as a matter of course. If you would like to have a look at a seat plan for your aircraft, you can check the airlines' own website, or one of the best independent websites for this information is SeatGuru.com, which is part of the Tripadvisor group.
