Fiji's main island is called Viti Levu, the location of the nation's capital Suva, and is situated on the eastern side of the island. Although an interesting town to visit, we would not recommend it for those clients looking for a relaxing holiday in the sun. Fiji's other main town, and the location for the main international airport, is Nadi, which is located on the west coast of Viti Levu close to all the main vacationing areas.

There are a few quality resorts north of Nadi, a short way up the coast half way between Nadi and Lautoka, but main accommodation area on Viti Levu is on the Coral Coast, which is located halfway between Nadi and Suva. This area offers a large range of hotels and resorts, which are ideal for a short stay of up to 4-6 nights. We would not usually recommend a long stay on the Coral Coast for, as lovely as the area is, we believe that the true Fijian experience is to be found on Fiji's outer islands. These are mainly located in the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands, which are situated to the west of Viti Levu.

A slightly different area to stay is Denarau Island.  Denarau is on the west coast of Viti Levu, close to Nadi town and the airport.  It is almost part of the mainland, but is separated by a small inlet river that joins into the Nadi river, and is accessed by a causeway road.  The island has been developed over the last 50 years, and now boasts an 18 hole golf course, 8 large, luxurious resorts, a small water park and, due to some historical dredging and reclamation of land, an excellent marina.  It has a large number of berths, some big enough for large yachts, even the odd cruise ship, as well as the individual sailing boats and motor launches, plus a good selection of quality restaurants and shops that cater very well to the sailing community and land-lubbing visitors alike.
