Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay is Fiji's newest international luxury hotel. Highlights include the luxurious over-water Bure Villas, various dining options, three large swimming pools and private white-sand beaches.
This luxurious, brand new Resort, that was nearly 10 years in the making and only opened in early 2017, is set on a huge man-made lagoon with every room having a lake, lagoon or ocean view.
The Marriott Momi Bay Resort has been designed from the sand upwards, and has been done exceedingly well, with airy, contemporary design, using local timber and natural materials but with a distinct Fijian flavour. They actually broke ground on this property back in 2007, but the collapse of the NZ finance company put the project on hold, and was postponed for many years. Thankfully, the property was refinanced and finally finished in January 2017, and is now an impressive and luxurious Resort, set in a quiet location surrounding the huge and unique (in Fiji) man-made lagoon in the centre, and the open ocean on the far side. There are several champagne sand beaches, mostly facing into the shallow lagoon but some on the oceanside too. The lagoon has a channel to the open ocean, so fresh sea water is circulated, but as it is so sheltered, it is always calm and warm.
The Resort has 136 hotel-style rooms and 114 suites, including the 22 signature Overwater Bures, making this resort one of only 2 at present in Fiji with authentic overwater bungalows. The Deluxe Lagoon View and Deluxe Lagoon Front Rooms are located on the land-side of the Resort, in low 2-storey buildings, no taller than the palm trees, facing a small lake or the main lagoon. They offer 1 King or 2 Double beds, spacious ensuite bathroom with tub and walk-in shower, Wi-Fi and wired Internet access, large flat screen TV with movie and cable/satellite channels, sitting area with table, mini-fridge with complimentary bottled water, tea and coffee making facilties, and sliding doors opening to a private patio, deck or balcony furnished with table and chairs plus a round day bed. The Bure Villas are spread out in a horseshoe shape around the lagoon and are detached, except for the Duplex Lagoon Front and Duplex Ocean Front Bures, which are semi-detached. Each Bure offers similar facilities to the Guest Rooms, but are more spacious, with larger bathrooms with freestanding tub, larger living area and sun deck, and most are closer to the beaches, lagoon or ocean. They offer Lagoon, Ocean Front, Royal Lagoon and Royal Ocean Front options.
The highlight of the Resort are the Overwater Lagoon Bures, and 2 Royal Suites, which are adults only and located on a softly curving walkway sweeping out into the lagoon. They are similar in design the the land Bures but have a large deck with ladder directly into the water. The Royal Suites offer a separate bathroom extension, thus making the interior larger and includes a dressing area.
Dining options at the Momi Bay are casual and delicious. The light and airy Lagoon House Restaurant and Bar is and delightful open air restaurant overlooking the lagoon, in a chic, contemporary style with Fijian touches, especially the floor tiles and the openwork panels, that are everywhere around the resort. They offer a fresh, mediterranean-Fijian menu with a casual theme. There are chill out seating areas with lagoon views, and a cool swim-up pool bar at the neigbouring pool, along with the Lagoon Lounge Coffee House deck, which offers a relaxed place to enjoy a selection of coffees and light bites, late afternoon cocktails or sunset drinks. The Goji Kitchen and Bar has an open kitchen which serves an eclectic oriental, Indian and Fijian menu in a stylish, modern restaurant, again, being open air and with lagoon views from most tables, as well as a casual overwater deck lounge, for relaxing with drinks. Fish Bar is the Resort's signature seafood restaurant, set up a small rise, atop the cliff, with elevated views over the resort and the ocean. The contemporary dining room overlooks the ocean with bifolding doors opening the whole restaurant to the soft ocean breezes. The open show kitchen serves a selection of fresh seafood, including tiger prawns, crab, yellow fin tuna and the Fijian delicacy Kokoda, plus local catch of the day. There are land and vegetarian options for those not wanting seafood. A selection of desserts and full bar complete the service. The separate outside bar is next to a sandy sunlounging area that overlooks the ocean and the adults only Sunset Inifinity Pool and sun terrace, with loungers with umbrellas to relax on, and enjoy the peace and quiet. The Fiji Baking Company Deli is the place to get sweet and savoury bakes, sandwiches and salads, along with a hot and cold drink selection.
The well-equipped Quan day spa, which has 6 treatment rooms, offers a huge range of body and beauty treatments, and the fitness suite has a range of machines and free weight for guest to use. There aretennis courts, table tennis and volleyball courts available and 2 pools; the main pool and the adults-only Sunset Pool, plus a separate kids pool, all with towels provided. The main lagoon is sheltered and shallow, and an ideal place to swim, snorkel, kayak, paddleboard or take a boat out. The bay and open ocean offers jet-skiing, boat trips and kayaking, and diving, hiking, shopping, sightseeing and the Sigatoka River area are available nearby. Nadi and Denerau Island and marina are about 45 minutes away by road, making daytrips from the Marina or visit to the town an easy option.
The Marriott Momi Bay is a wonderful resort for spending some quiet time and just enjoying what the property and the area has to offer, and is a great option for a few nights as a pre-or post outer-island stay. Not an inexpensive stay, but definitely worth it if your budget can encompass a stay.

Fiji has one of the best air service connections of any of the islands in the Pacific.
Fiji Airways ( was Air Pacific ) Fiji's national carrier, provides a daily service to Sydney, Auckland and Los Angeles, and frequent flights to Brisbane and Melbourne. San Francisco. Further afield it operates 5 times a week to Hong Kong, twice a week to Tokyo and 3 times a week to Singapore They also provide regular services to the neighbouring island nations of Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Tuvulu and the Solomon Islands.
Korean Air operate three flights a week between Seoul and Nadi. On the southbound flights from Seoul a direct connection can be made off Korean Air's daily London-Seoul flight. However, on the return flight, a night stop will be required in Seoul, as the flight timings do not permit a same day connection.
Air New Zealand operates daily to/from Auckland with connections to its double-daily flights to London, either via Los Angeles or Hong Kong. Air New Zealand also operates a codeshare arrangement with Air Pacific providing seats on their non-stop Nadi-Los Angeles flights.
Virgin Australia operate a regular service from/to Sydney, with connections to many other Australian cities.
Air Calin operate twice a week between Noumea and Nadi.
Air Niugini operate a twice a week service from and to Port Moresby via Honiara to Nadi.
Pacific Sun, Fiji Airways's domestic airline subsidiary, operates an extensive domestic flight network covering all the countries main islands, with at least a daily service. The main northern islands receive at least two flights a day and some times more, the less populated islands get a restricted service, so sometimes a night stop in Nadi or Suva may be required when connecting between some of the less popular islands.
A number of the outer Island Resorts operate their own dedicated daily flights, to transfer their clients from Nadi to the resort and back, using either fixed wing commuter aircraft, seaplanes or helicopters. Further details of these will be given at the time we provide our quotation.
