Taveuni is Fiji's third largest island, lying to
the northeast of Nadi, and just a short sixty-minute flight
away. The island is home to the official location of the
international dateline, the 180-degree longitude goes through the
island, the fixed location is in the middle of a field! This makes
Taveuni exactly halfway around the world.
The island is a high, lush tropical one with rain forests and
many waterfalls and offers some very lovely hikes and walks
for the adventurous. The main island does not have many long
beaches and would not be an immediate choice for those looking for
such. But it does have a number of outer islands that offer just
that, including Qamea Beach resort, Matangi Island Resort and
Laucala Resort. On the main island we recommend a stay at the
Maravu Plantation Resort which provides a unique hillside location
for the resort set in a Coconut plantation. It also offers
one of the most spectacular wedding locations to be found any where
in the Pacific, perched on the top of the hill with a panoramic
view of the ocean and the surrounding islands. Truly
spectacular!
Taveuni offers the visitor a very quiet relaxing experience and
one that should not be missed as part of your Fijian
experience.
