The Coconut Grove Beachfront Cottages is a small, personal property set on the very northern tip of Taveuni Island, on a lovely stretch of golden sandy beach with great views, surrounded by lush tropical gardens, and only a short distance from the airport.
Rated as the No. 1 hotel on Taveuni by Tripadvisor reviewers, being small has definitely been a benefit, not a hindrence to Coconut Grove. Although it is not a private beach, vary rarely does anyone else stroll past and with only 3 bures (bungalows), the property is never crowded. In fact, you may end up getting to know your fellow guests so well, you can share excursions (and split the cost) with them!
The Papaya Bure is the smaller of the 3 bures with louvered windows on 3 sides giving wonderful views, and offers a queen bed, ensuite facilities with shower, ceiling fan, mini-fridge, in-room safe, cd player, and a private verandah with views of the gardens, beach and the 3 little islands just offshore. Just to the side of your verandah, there is a lava rock outdoor shower with great beach views, and ideal for washing the sand off after relaxing on the beach.
The Mango Bure is the newest addition at Coconut Grove and is on a small rise above the beach but only 30 steps to the sand, with ocean views and surrounded by lush tropical planting. It offers a spacious room with large louvered windows all around, a king bed, ensuite bathroom with indoor shower and banana tree shaded outdoor lava rock shower, ceiling fan, a single day bed, mini fridge, and a large verandah with 2 sun loungers with stunning beach and ocean views.
The Banana Bure is the closest to the beach an offers the same amenities as the Mango Bure, just with a slightly different floor plan and the addition of a hammock just off the verandah.
The Coconut Grove Restaurant is set just above the beach with an open verandah dining room with fantastic ocean views. Recommended in the Frommers South Pacific Guide, the restaurant offers international menu with an island stye, with fresh seafood, locally grown vegetables and salads, homemade pastas, as well as the finest New Zealand beef. Once a week they have a village meke night (traditional story and dancing) on the beach followed by a traditional lovo barbecue.
Coconut Grove isn't a busy, bustling resort with 101 things going on all day, but is quiet and relaxing, with a great beach and amazing snorkelling. The property has snorkelling equipment for guests to use, as well as kayaks, if you don;t want to float out to the corals. The reef system just offshore offers sea grass beds closest to the beach, sand and small coral heads leading into a wider reef edge, with a slope to deeper water, then more coral reef beds a bit further out. It's not called the Rainbow Reef for nothing! There are mountain bikes to use to go out exploring and the massage bure can offer a soothing full body massage and reflexology foot massage, either in the beachfront bure or on your own verandah, if you wish. Each bure has a CD player and there is a range of CD's to borrow and a range of books to take down to the beach to read.
Other than the complimentary snorkelling equipment, kayaks and bikes, Coconut Grove also offers complimentary tea and coffee with fresh homemade cookies every day, and for guests staying 5 nights or more, they also offer a candlelit dinner on the beach, a 30-minute de-stress couples massage on arrival, basketweaving lessons, coconut scraping lesson and Polynesian cooking lesson with the kitchen staff and a local village visit.
The lovely staff at Coconut Grove can also book a huge range of tours and excursions for you, with everything from horseback riding, birdwatching, scuba diving (pre-book or book on arrival), sailing, fishing and guided snorkeling trips, to nature and rainforest hikes, waterfall sightseeing, coastal walks and village visits.
Coconut Grove Beachfront offers great service in a quiet, well placed property with well equiped bungalows and excellent reviews and awards, both from Frommers Fiji Guide and TripAdviser, (#1 small Hotel In Fiji 2015, and #1 Hotel on Taveuni) and is well worth considering for your visit to Taveuni.

Check-in Details
Standard check-in time : 11.00am
Standard check-out time : 09.00am
Early check-in is included as most guests arrive in the early morning due to the flight schedules, so an earlier-than-normal check-out time is required. But as most flight schedules depart quite early anyway, this is not usually a problem for the majority ofguests. Late check-out would require booking the bure for an additional night, (unless room has not been booked for that night, in which case it would be at managements' permission), or, with a 1/2 day rate, you can use the Guava Day Room, to store luggage and freshen up before your departure.
Fiji has one of the best air service connections of any of the islands in the Pacific.
Fiji Airways ( was Air Pacific ),Fiji's national carrier, provides a daily service to Sydney, Auckland and Los Angeles, and frequent flights to Brisbane and Melbourne. San Francisco San Francisco. Further afield it operates 5 times a week to Hong Kong, twice a week to Tokyo and 3 times a week to Singapore They also provide regular services to the neighbouring island nations of Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Tuvulu and the Solomon Islands.
Korean Air operate three flights a week between Seoul and Nadi. On the southbound flights from Seoul a direct connection can be made off Korean Air's daily London-Seoul flight. However, on the return flight, a night stop will be required in Seoul, as the flight timings do not permit a same day connection.
Air New Zealand operates daily to/from Auckland with connections to its double-daily flights to London, either via Los Angeles or Hong Kong. Air New Zealand also operates a codeshare arrangement with Air Pacific providing seats on their non-stop Nadi-Los Angeles flights.
Virgin Australia operate a regular service from/to Sydney, with connections to many other Australian cities.
Air Calin operate twice a week between Noumea and Nadi.
Air Niugini operate a twice a week service from and to Port Moresby via Honiara to Nadi.
Pacific Sun, Fiji Airways's domestic airline subsidiary, operates an extensive domestic flight network covering all the countries main islands, with at least a daily service. The main northern islands receive at least two flights a day and some times more, the less populated islands get a restricted service, so sometimes a night stop in Nadi or Suva may be required when connecting between some of the less popular islands.
A number of the outer Island Resorts operate their own dedicated daily flights, to transfer their clients from Nadi to the resort and back, using either fixed wing commuter aircraft, seaplanes or helicopters. Further details of these will be given at the time we provide our quotation.
