Pokeno is a small town on the north island, just a 30 mile drive south of Auckland along Highway 1, on the way to Hamilton and the Coromandel Peninsula.  The town used to be on the main road for travellers going south, but a new motorway has bypassed the town.  There is nothing really outstanding about the town or the area except that it has an ice cream shop famous for its generous portions of over 40 different flavours of the delicious frozen treat, and that it is the location of the luxury Rata Lodge.
