Founded in 1933, Aggie Grey's was named after the popular matriarch of the Grey family, and, although sadly, Aggie passed away in 1988, Samoa's iconic Aggie Greys Hotel is still welcoming guests in their own special way. The hotel overlooks Apia Harbour and being just a 10 minute stroll into the centre of town, it's in a great location and close to many great restaurants and tourist attractions.
It was called the British Club before Aggie bought it and named it the Aggie Greys Hotel. Throughout the 30's and 40's, Aggie Grey's was the best hotel to stay at in the South Pacific, a true South Pacific legend. During WWII, it was the Club to be seen at for American serviceman stationed in Samoa, where Aggie served hotdogs and hamburgers to the US servicemen and the rest, as they say, is history! In the immediate years after the 2nd World War, the Hotel's warm and friendly atmosphere made it an island retreat for some famous movie personalities of the time, including Gary Cooper (after whom the cocktail bar was named), Marlon Brando, Raymond Burr and Robert Morley, and in more modern times, Tia Carera and Cheryl Ladd as well as Royalty, Presidents and Prime Ministers. Now this warm, friendly atmosphere is available to todays' international traveller. Afternoon Tea with English sandwiches and cakes still adds that feeling of historic elegance and gracious ambiance today, whilst the drums that announce dinner add that touch of Samoan flavour.
Updated and refurbished in 2012, the Hotel was a fabulous, tropical plantation style property, which was then seriously damaged by Tropical Cyclone Evan in December 2012, undoing all their previous good work. As the damage was quite severe, they decided to close the property for an extended time and completely renovate the whole resort, from the ground up! At this time, Starwood Properties came on board and it was to become the Sheraton Samoa Aggie Greys Hotel. It took 2 years and a $40m US dollar investment, but as of mid-2016, the brand new Sheraton Aggie Greys Hotel was open. Then, sadly in February 2018, another cyclone struck and damaged and flooded the hotel, which closed for 8 months to repairs, and will open again on 1st September 2018

There are 2 main on-site restaurants, 2 bars and the Coffee Shop to choose from at Aggie Grey's. The poolside Feast Restaurant is the centre point of Aggie Grey's for a breakfast buffet, casual poolside lunches and Pacific style dinners, with a new menu daily, as well as barbecues and themed buffets each night, along with live entertainment and traditonal Fire Dance shows on selected nights. Aggie Greys by Peter Kuruvita Restaurant is their new signature Restaurant This elegantly appointed Restaurant is located in the new Aggie Grey's building and offers an international menu from celebrated chef Peter Kuruvita. The Lobby Lounge is open daily and located in the main foyer of the Hotel lobby serving fresh coffees, drinks and an array of light snacks as well as offering a Black Board menu for breakfasts and lunches. For cocktails or drinks you have the choice of The Pool Bar, or the Lobby Lounge Bar, where you can get Aggie's Special cocktail, whose ingredients are still a secret today!
The large brand new free-form pool, separate lap pool and sun terrace offers a place to cool down or relax in the sun in one of the many new loungers, or if you want a bit more exercise, there is an air-conditioned, well equipped fitness room. The trademark Link@Sheraton provide computer terminals and complimentary Wi-Fi in the Lobby.
As the Hotel is just on the edge of town, facing right onto the harbour, all the restaurants, shops and tourist attractions are only a few minute walk away. There are also many tours and experiences, such as diving, deep sea fishing, hiking and golfing, and all can be arranged by the Hotel Tour Desk in the lobby.
Aggie Grey's is a great historic Hotel to visit the main town, and would be ideal combined with a beach-based Resort to complete your Samoan experience.
