The classical Braemar Bed & Breakfast property, built in 1901 on Parliament Street, is the only late Victorian/Edwardian townhouse in the central Auckland, that still exists as a private residence.
The Braemar owners, John and Susan Sweetman, have spent the last 7 years authentically restoring and refurbishing the 20 room property, which had been unsympathetically converted in 1917 into 5 apartments. Using books and existing buildings as examples, they have stripped out the bad conversions, installed and upgraded modern services, such as gas, electric and internet, searched out antique furniture and fittings, restored original clawfoot bathtubs, or sourced authentic reprodution pieces, such as bathroom and washroom fittings, rugs and carpets. Painted joinery and woodwork was stripped back to its natural state and waxed or varnished for protection.
Now, the Braemar offers 4 stylish guest rooms, with queen or double beds, period ensuite bathrooms with cast iron baths and shower and complimentary local toiletries.
The Batten Suite, offers a queen bedroom, with ensuite bathroom and a private lounge, that can be converted into another bedroom. Jenny's Room and Norman's Room have queen beds and are interconnecting through the shared period bathroom. The Victorian Room was originally the master bedroom for the original Victorian family that first lived in the house, and features a Queen bed, Victorian furnishings and a romantic clawfoot freestanding bathtub, with privacy screen.
A freshly cooked hot and continental breakfast is served in the large, welcoming dining room, on the lower ground level, and the guest lounge and front parlour, with open fire, is a cosy place to relax at the end of the day, with Sky TV, a library of books and comfortable wing-back chairs to sit back in.

Air New Zealand: Operate a daily service from Heathrow via Los Angeles to Auckland, and a daily service, except Monday, from Heathrow to Auckland Via Hong Kong, with extensive connecting flights to all major cities and towns throughout both islands.
Korean Air: Offer daily flights to Auckland via Seoul from Heathrow.
Singapore Airlines: Offer daily flights to Auckland and Christchurch via Singapore from Heathrow and Manchester
Emirates Airlines: Offer daily flights to Auckland and Christchurch, and other destination in Australia, via Dubai, from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Glasgow
Thai Airways: Offer five flights a week to Auckland via Bangkok.
Qantas: Offer daily connecting flights over Sydney to Auckland, Christchurch, Wellington and there are regular connecting fights to Queenstown.
