With the warm, personal attention and friendly staff that has made it famous and family-friendly, The Handlery Union Square Hotel is a premier downtown San Francisco Hotel in the heart of the Bay area.
Located at Union Square, The Handlery was first built in 1908, and most of the original building still exists today. The hotel is still owned and operated by direct descendants of Harry Handlery, who bought the Historic building over 60 years ago.
Though modernised, refurbished and thoughtfully updated in 2010, the 284 Historic rooms still have the character and charm of old world San Francisco, with traditional architecture and some even have classic bay windows overlooking the bustling street below. The 93 oversized Premier Section Rooms are in an area that surrounds the pool and courtyard areas, some with private balconies. The Premier Section used to be the Handlery Motor Inn. Adjacent to the Handlery, on O'Farrell Street, the Motor Inn was initially built by Harry's son Paul Handlery, in 1964. Still owned by the family in 1987, they spent over $10m making the 2 properties into 1, that has since become a San Francisco iconic property.
All accommodations have had new carpets, curtains and soft furnishings and updated electronics, decor, bathrooms and furniture. All rooms have a calm, classic look, in shades of chocolate, caramel and cream, and offer a King or 2 Double or Queen-sized beds, central heating, air conditioning, en suite facilities with complimentary toiletries, flat screen Cable TV, IDD telephone, clock radio, mini fridge, wireless Internet access (fee), in-room safe, tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryers, iron & ironing board and 1 or 2 armchairs. The larger Premier Section Rooms have 450 sqft of space and additionally offer complimentary weekday newspapers, bathrobes, MP3 clock radio, 2 telephones, electric shoe polisher and separate vanity area with lighted make-up mirror. Rollaway beds are available to accommodate children or teens for a night charge.
There are also a few of Suites available at the Handlery. The Historic Section Suite offers a separate bedroom, ensuite bathroom, separate living area and private patio. The spacious, traditional San Francisco Suite is located in the Historic Section and offers a separate bedroom, a large lounge and dining area with traditional fireplace and bookshelves, a separate kitchenette area with sink mini fridge and tea/coffee facilities, and large ensuite bathroom with tub with shower, toilet and vintage-style pedastal sink and separate vanity area with large mirrored wardrobes, sink and counter area. For something a bit different, you can stay in the Rooftop Garden Terrace Suite, which offers a separate bedroom, lounge and dining area, kitchenette with mini fridge and wet bar, microwave, sink and tea/coffee facilities and private patio terrace with garden lounge furniture and views over the city.
The Handlery Union Square Hotel offers a number of amenities for guests, including a brand new fitness room, sauna, outdoor courtyard heated pool, on-site valet parking (fee), well equipped business centre, Concierge, barbershop, laundry and dry cleaning, babysitting services, room service 7am - 10pm and all day dining at the Daily Grill Restaurant and Bar.
At The Handlery Union Square Hotel, you are only a short distance away from all that San Francisco has to offer. The Hotel is ideally situated with the cable car stop right on the corner, to take you up the hill through beautiful Nob Hill and down into Fisherman's Wharf. Five blocks from the hotel in one direction you will find yourself at the Moscone Convention Center and The Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), while a few blocks in the other direction you can sample some dim sum in China Town. For shopping enthusiasts, Macys is right outside the door and the new Westfield San Francisco Centre, the largest shopping center on the West Coast, is just a few minutes away.
Children of all ages are welcome. Children 15 years and under stay FREE when sharing room with parents using existing bedding. Rollaway beds are available for $10 per night.
Round trip airport transfers are available on request. The Hotel is approximately 30-40 minutes from the airport.
Valet parking is available on site for $38 + tax per day. Due to the high cost of parking in the city, we recommend not hiring a car unless necessary. The public transport around the city is frequent and reliable and there are cable car stops right on the corner near the hotel.
