Zipolo Habu Resort

Zipolo Habu Resort is on the paradise Lola Island, in the turquoise Vona Vona Lagoon.  Nestled between Vona Vona Island, Kohinggo Island and the western tip of New Georgia Island, Lola Island is in a sheltered, shallow lagoon and is surrounded by small deserted islands, white sand banks and colourful coral reefs.

The Zipolo Habu Resort has evolved over many years, with lots of hard work and determination by the owners, into a property reflecting a true island experience, but with comfortable accommodation that today's travellers are more used to.

The bungalows have been built using traditional designs and local materials, including Sago Palm leaf for the walls, shutters and roof, and Lawyer cane and Wild Betel Nut Tree for the wooden structure and framework.

The 2 Traditional Bungalows offer 2 separate bedrooms with 2 Double beds or 4 Single beds, all with mosquito nets, a separate living room, small kitchenette area with mini-fridge, 1-ring gas hob, drinking water and tea and coffee making facilities, 240v power (available 11am-11pm) wall fans, and a private covered verandah with views over the garden to the beach and sea beyond. The bungalows share bathroom and toilet facilities.

The 2 Semi-Deluxe Bungalows offer the same facilities, but with extra added touches, such as wall fans, 24hr power and more luxurious finishes, and are closer to the beach.  One bungalow is slightly larger than the other and has an extra single bed in one of the bedrooms, has another small covered verandah off the back bedroom, and they share bathroom and toilet facilities.

The 2 Deluxe Bungalows offer premium accommodation, with 2 bedrooms with 1 Queen and 1 Double bed with mosquito nets, ensuite bathroom with hot rainwater showers, a large living room with chairs and table, a small kitchenette area that has a mini-fridge, 1-ring gas hob, drinking water and tea and coffee making facilities, ceiling or wall fans and a private furnished sundeck with lovely views. 240v power is available 11am-11pm with 24hr battery back-up for overnight use.   One Deluxe Bungalow is larger than the other and is located right on the beach side.  It also has 2 extra single bed in the bedroom and a large shaded raised deck with stunning views of the lagoon.

Dining at Zipolo Habu is usually open air, and always sociable.  The popular bar offers a good selection of beer, wine, spirits and soft drinks, and is known locally for serving the coldest beer in the west!  The Waterfront Cafe offers a lovely spot to catch a match on the satelite TV or just watch the sunset after dinner with a cold drink.  And dinner is the freshest seafood available, sometimes only a few hours out of the sea, and uses fresh local produce whenever available.  The can also prepare anything you catch on your days' fishing trip, and dinner always tastes better when you've caught it yourself!  Alternatively, as each room does have basic kitchenette facilities, you can prepare your own meals, but as local markets can be unpredictable on what's available each day, you may want to shop in Honiara or Gizo markets before you arrive.  You can catch your fish or purchase seafood directly from the hotel if you wish.

Zipolo Habu is a leading fishing destination in the Solomons, due to their custom-built fishing boats and onsite tackle shop. They have high quality light and medium sport fishing tackle, and you are welcome to bring your own.  The guides know the best spots to find your 'catch of the day'! They provide a range of fishing day charters, offering shallow lagoon, deep sea, river and outer reef trips, and you could catch anything from mackerel, coral trout and tuna, up to prize fish such as sailfish, marlin and barracuda!

If you don't want to fish, there are many other things to do. You can take a picnic to deserted Bikiki Island, for a chilling day of swimming, snorkelling and relaxing, take a WWII historic tour, a rainforest river boat trip or a Vona Vona Lagoon excursion, and they can arrange scuba diving excursions and tuition.  Alternatively, in the resort there are kayaks, a beach volleyball court, a book swap library, and board games.  There is also a peaceful walking trail through the rainforest to a quiet beach on the other side of the island.

Zipolo Habu is not a luxury property by western standards, but is a laid-back, typical Pacific island resort, with a good level of comfort, but definitely in a great location.
