Since 1927, the Royal Hawaiian, 'The Pink Palace of the Pacific' as this hotel is lovingly referred to, has been a symbol of oceanfront luxury on Waikiki Beach. A favourite resort for royalty and sophisticated travellers alike, her famous pink facade, vaulted Spanish-Moorish archways and 525 rooms and suites are as magnificent as ever after a fairly recent facelift.
Guests will enjoy spectacular ocean views, or peaceful garden views from the elegant Guest Rooms and Suites, located in the Historic Wing or the Royal Beach Tower. The Historic Wing is part of the main building, which is 'H' shaped, giving tropically landscaped garden courtyards on each side, surrounded on 3 sides by the Garden Rooms and the Royal Grove Rooms. The Royal Beach Tower is to the side of the main building facing directly onto the beach on one side, and the city on the other.
The standard Guest rooms are decorated in an elegant, modern style, with cream and brown decor, dark wood furniture, and feature walls adding a splash of colour, usually in a shade of pink! Guest Rooms offer 1 King or 2 Double beds, ensuite bathroom with bath/shower, pink bathrobes, slippers and complimentary toiletries, air conditioning, Wi-Fi high speed internet access, wide-screen LCD TV with premium and pay channels, CD/Radio alarm clock with iPod dock, small occasional table and chairs, work desk and chair, in-room safe, full sized hairdryer, mini-fridge (minibar contents on request), telephone with voicemail, iron and ironing board, and opening windows. Some Guest rooms in the Royal Beach Tower also offer a private furnished balcony to enjoy the views. Suites provide basically the same amenities as the Guest rooms, but offer extra space with separate bedrooms and living rooms with small wetbar, sofa, charis and coffee table, separate WC (some Suites) and private lanai (some suites).
There are also a number of individual, exclusive suites, offering luxurious light and airy accommodations, all with stunning views.
The Royal Hawaiian offers a selection of dining options, from world class dining, to a romantic private beachfront cabana.
Azure offers the freshest seafood, selected that morning at the local fish market, local salads and vegetables served in an Asian-Hawaiian style with French twist. Azure also offers private beachside dining cabanas, for a romantic evening under the stars. Surf Lanai Restaurant is an outdoor beachside restaurant serving an eclectic beakfast menu, and a casual lunch of soups, salads, sandwiches and pizzas. They also have a very popular Sunday Brunch with traditional breakfast options, alongside Japanese selections and steaks and hot roast meats. The Mai Tai Bar offers beachside cocktails, drinks and light bites, with live music each evening, and brand new to the resort, the Royal Hawaiian Bakery, on the Coconut Lanai, serves a mouth-watering array of freshly baked delights, including their famous banana bread, macaroons, honey macadamia sticky buns, croissants and danish pastries and more.
Each Monday evening, the Royal Hawaiian presents Aha'aina, an ancestral Luau, with historic activites and story-telling, a traditional 5 course sit down feast and live entertainment.
As guests at the Royal Hawaiian, if you don't want to eat in, you can visit any of the other 3 Starwood Waikiki properties (Sheraton Waikiki, Moana Surfrider and Sheraton Princess Kaiulani), dine in any of their restaurants and charge it back to your room.
The hotel does have its own heated outdoor swimming pool, but it is more of an adult pool. For children, The Keiki Pool, a shared playground for young and old alike, with slides and meandering waterways, lies between the Royal Hawaiian and the Sheraton Waikiki hotel.
The Resort offers a selection of cultural activities, such as lei making, hula and Tahitian dance lessons, historic and botanical tours and traditional crafts. There is also a fitness suite and the Abhasa Spa, providing a selection of facial and body treatments.
The Royal Hawaiian is a luxurious experience not to be missed, if you want elegant surroundings and lavish pampering.

Currently, there are no non-stop flights from the UK to the Hawaiian Islands, mainly due to the distance from the UK. The most convenient way of getting there is via a connection at an American or Canadian city, and the following is a list of the Airlines that offer through service to the islands and the routes they operate.
Air Canada: Offer daily connecting flights to Honolulu from Heathrow via Toronto or Vancouver
United Airlines: Offer through services with same day connections from Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Heathrow via Newark, Washington, Los Angeles and San Francisco to Honolulu (Oahu), Maui, Kauai and Kona (Hawaii Big island). They also offer non-stop flights from Chicago and Denver to Honolulu
American Airlines: Offer through services with same day connections from Heathrow via Los Angeles to Maui, Kauai and Kona (Hawaii Big island). They also offer non-stop flights from Dallas to Honolulu and Maui
Alaska Airlines: Offer daily flights from Anchorage, Seattle and Portland to Honolulu, Maui, Hawaii Big Island and Kauai, which can be used in conjunction with other airlines from the UK
Delta Airlines: Currently, no Delta flights from the UK make a same day connection to their Hawaiian flights, so an overnight stay will be required. However, they can offer a same day connection by using Virgin Atlantic's flight from Heathrow to LA, They offer non-stop flights to Honolulu (Oahu) from Atlanta, Los Angeles, Detroit and Salt Lake City, and to Maui from Los Angeles and Salt Lake City
Hawaiian Airlines: They provide a large range of flights from cities in the American West to Honolulu and Maui. Their flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Las Vegas, San Diego, Seattle, Portland and Phoenix can be used in connection with other carriers flights from the UK. They also provide a weekly service between Honolulu and Tahiti, currently operating on a Saturday/Sunday schedule.
Korean Air:
Offer a very competitive price for flights to Honolulu from
Heathrow via Seoul in South Korea, but it is the long way
around.
Domestic Flights around the Islands
There are currently three domestic airlines operating in Hawaii; Aloha Island Air, Hawaiian Airlines and Go!. They operate an extensive domestic flight network covering all the islands, with frequent and regular departures operating between 6am and 9 pm
There are a number of aircraft and helicopters available for
private charters throughout Hawaii, so arranging charters between
the main and/or outer islands is very easy. At this time, there are
no seaplanes available for chartering in the Hawaiian chain, which
is a little disappointing for flying boat fans!
Airline Seat Maps
For most airlines, we can pre-reserve seats for you once your flight booking is confirmed, and will do so as a matter of course. If you would like to have a look at a seat plan for your aircraft, check out the airlines own website, or one of the best independent websites for this information is SeatGuru.com, which is part of the Tripadvisor group.
