Located on Kaiulani Avenue (just behind the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani Hotel), at the eastern end of Kalakaua Avenue, Waikiki's main street, just a couple of blocks and a few minutes walk to the beach, the Ohana East offers good value accommodation for a location close to the beach. Just across the street, there is the Kings Shopping area, which includes a supermarket, and it is situated between the 2 parallel main roads of Kalakaua Avenue and Kuhio Avenue, so there are shops, bars and restaurants galore, all within walking distance.
It has 441 guest rooms and suites, in five categories; standard, city view, kitchenette and one or two bedroom suite/kitchenette. All rooms are decorated in creams and beiges, with tropical island designs on the soft furnishings, and have ensuite shower rooms (no bathtub), IDD telephone with limited free calls, 25in television with cable channels and Nintendo game console (fee), mini refrigerator, high speed Wi-Fi internet access, tea and coffee making facilities, alarm clock/radio, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, in-room safe (fee), air-conditioning, and private balcony with views of the surrounding city, and in some rooms, partial sea views to the side. 1- and 2-bedroom Suites offer the same amenities as the Guest Rooms, but additionally have separate bedrooms, separate living room with sitting area, dining area and small kitchenette, so you can have the ability to self cater should you feel like eating in (there is a well-stocked supermarket just across the street), which helps if you are travelling on a budget!
But eating in your room is not the only option at this property. The Ohana East has 3 restaurants and a coffee shop on site. Located in the basement, the cosy Chuck's Cellar is a popular bar and restaurant serving classic American fare, fresh seafood, wines and draft beers and live music each night. they also offer happy hour/early bird specials between 5.30-6.30pm. Keoni by Keo serves great Thai food alongside traditional American cuisine, and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also provide room service between 7.30am round to 10.00pm. Round Table Pizza pizzeria and bar is open for lunch, dinner late into the night, and offers a delivery service up to 1.00am. Big screen TV's show local news and weather and big sporting events. The Kimobean Coffee Shop offers the normal selection of coffees and drinks, plus hot and cold sandwiches, wraps, sweet treats and snacks. There is also 4 internet computor booths, where you can check your emails or surf the net with your coffee for a small charge.
The Ohana East has an outdoor freshwater pool, whirlpool spa and pool deck with sun loungers, and Waikiki Beach is just a 10 minute walk away. The hotel does provide beach towels for pool and beach use, but there is a $20 'fine' for lost or unreturned towels!
There is also a small fitness room with a couple of resistance machines and free weights, a compact business centre with PC's and a printer, complimentary local newspapers in the lobby and covered self-parking for $25 per day. All Ohana guests also get complimentary travel on the Waikiki Trolley Pink Line, that goes all around the main Waikiki tourist areas and out to the huge Ala Moana shopping centre, near the harbour at the west end of Waikiki, every 10 minutes. Just show your room key card to the driver for passage for 2 people.
The Ohana East is the ideal base from which to explore all that Honolulu has to offer, and although this is not a luxury product, it offers well located, well appointed, clean accommodation for a more modest budget.

Currently, there are no non-stop flights from the UK to the Hawaiian Islands, mainly due to the distance from the UK. The most convenient way of getting there is via a connection at an American or Canadian city, and the following is a list of the Airlines that offer through service to the islands and the routes they operate.
Air Canada: Offer daily connecting flights to Honolulu from Heathrow via Toronto or Vancouver
United Airlines: Offer through services with same day connections from Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Heathrow via Newark, Washington, Los Angeles and San Francisco to Honolulu (Oahu), Maui, Kauai and Kona (Hawaii Big island). They also offer non-stop flights from Chicago and Denver to Honolulu
American Airlines: Offer through services with same day connections from Heathrow via Los Angeles to Maui, Kauai and Kona (Hawaii Big island). They also offer non-stop flights from Dallas to Honolulu and Maui
Alaska Airlines: Offer daily flights from Anchorage, Seattle and Portland to Honolulu, Maui, Hawaii Big Island and Kauai, which can be used in conjunction with other airlines from the UK
Delta Airlines: Currently, no Delta flights from the UK make a same day connection to their Hawaiian flights, so an overnight stay will be required. However, they can offer a same day connection by using Virgin Atlantic's flight from Heathrow to LA, They offer non-stop flights to Honolulu (Oahu) from Atlanta, Los Angeles, Detroit and Salt Lake City, and to Maui from Los Angeles and Salt Lake City
Hawaiian Airlines: They provide a large range of flights from cities in the American West to Honolulu and Maui. Their flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Las Vegas, San Diego, Seattle, Portland and Phoenix can be used in connection with other carriers flights from the UK. They also provide a weekly service between Honolulu and Tahiti, currently operating on a Saturday/Sunday schedule.
Korean Air:
Offer a very competitive price for flights to Honolulu from
Heathrow via Seoul in South Korea, but it is the long way
around.
Domestic Flights around the Islands
There are currently three domestic airlines operating in Hawaii; Aloha Island Air, Hawaiian Airlines and Go!. They operate an extensive domestic flight network covering all the islands, with frequent and regular departures operating between 6am and 9 pm
There are a number of aircraft and helicopters available for
private charters throughout Hawaii, so arranging charters between
the main and/or outer islands is very easy. At this time, there are
no seaplanes available for chartering in the Hawaiian chain, which
is a little disappointing for flying boat fans!
Airline Seat Maps
For most airlines, we can pre-reserve seats for you once your flight booking is confirmed, and will do so as a matter of course. If you would like to have a look at a seat plan for your aircraft, check out the airlines own website, or one of the best independent websites for this information is SeatGuru.com, which is part of the Tripadvisor group.
