With the beach and Waikiki just a few minutes walk through Kapiolani Park, the hotel nestles peacefully beneath the impressive Diamond Head. Perhaps an ideal position for those guest wanting a quieter locale, just far enough away to promote an air of tranquility, but with all of Waikiki's attractions easily at hand.
The Hotel has just completed a nearly $2m refurbishment of the entire property, which took 7 years in total to complete, with the final phase, the suites and studios in the Diamond Head Wing, being completed in December 2017.
The hotel has 118 rooms and suites, all with private Balconies with views of the gardens, Diamond Head or Waikiki beach and the ocean. Room categories range from Moderate and Standard Rooms, up to Ocean Front Deluxe Guest Rooms. Studios and Suites offer more space and amenities. The dual-aspect Pacific and Waikiki Suites facing the ocean and Waikiki Beach are highly recommended, and the Diamond Head Wing studios and suites, with separate living areas and kitchenettes, offer extra space at a value for money price. If you want to splash out for a little luxury, there are 6 individual penthouse suites, some with wrap-around lanai and jacuzzi bathtubs, but all with extra space, luxurious furnishings and fantastic views over the beach, Waikiki and the Pacific Ocean.
There are 3 restaurants; the Hau Tree Lanai, Sunset Lanai Lounge and Miyako Japanese Restaurant. The Hau Tree Lanai, offers charming beachfront dining and is an ideal location to enjoy the steak and seafood cuisine. Robert Louis Stevenson sat on this terrace writing his famous novels, and the terrace and wooden railings are original from the private house that was on this spot before the hotel, built in 1903. The Miyako Japanese offers a classic and contemporary Japanese menu with Hawaiian infuences, whilst the Sunset Lanai Lounge offers Hawaiian and Pacific Rim favourites, light bites and exotic tropical cocktails, with live entertainment and fabulous sunset views.
Although the New Otani has no swimming pool, its oceanfront position with white sand beach creates a relaxed and informal atmosphere.
We particularly recommend this hotel for those seeking all the possibilities that Waikiki has to offer but who prefer a more peaceful setting. We consider the Kaimana Beach represents extremely good value for money, especially after the recent refurbishment.

Currently, there are no non-stop flights from the UK to the Hawaiian Islands, mainly due to the distance from the UK. The most convenient way of getting there is via a connection at an American or Canadian city, and the following is a list of the Airlines that offer through service to the islands and the routes they operate.
Air Canada: Offer daily connecting flights to Honolulu from Heathrow via Toronto or Vancouver
United Airlines: Offer through services with same day connections from Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Heathrow via Newark, Washington, Los Angeles and San Francisco to Honolulu (Oahu), Maui, Kauai and Kona (Hawaii Big island). They also offer non-stop flights from Chicago and Denver to Honolulu
American Airlines: Offer through services with same day connections from Heathrow via Los Angeles to Maui, Kauai and Kona (Hawaii Big island). They also offer non-stop flights from Dallas to Honolulu and Maui
Alaska Airlines: Offer daily flights from Anchorage, Seattle and Portland to Honolulu, Maui, Hawaii Big Island and Kauai, which can be used in conjunction with other airlines from the UK
Delta Airlines: Currently, no Delta flights from the UK make a same day connection to their Hawaiian flights, so an overnight stay will be required. However, they can offer a same day connection by using Virgin Atlantic's flight from Heathrow to LA, They offer non-stop flights to Honolulu (Oahu) from Atlanta, Los Angeles, Detroit and Salt Lake City, and to Maui from Los Angeles and Salt Lake City
Hawaiian Airlines: They provide a large range of flights from cities in the American West to Honolulu and Maui. Their flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Las Vegas, San Diego, Seattle, Portland and Phoenix can be used in connection with other carriers flights from the UK. They also provide a weekly service between Honolulu and Tahiti, currently operating on a Saturday/Sunday schedule.
Korean Air:
Offer a very competitive price for flights to Honolulu from
Heathrow via Seoul in South Korea, but it is the long way
around.
Domestic Flights around the Islands
There are currently three domestic airlines operating in Hawaii; Aloha Island Air, Hawaiian Airlines and Go!. They operate an extensive domestic flight network covering all the islands, with frequent and regular departures operating between 6am and 9 pm
There are a number of aircraft and helicopters available for
private charters throughout Hawaii, so arranging charters between
the main and/or outer islands is very easy. At this time, there are
no seaplanes available for chartering in the Hawaiian chain, which
is a little disappointing for flying boat fans!
