Molokai
Molokai
lies 8 miles west of Maui and has retained the
charms of the late 19th and early 20th century and authentic
Hawaiian culture, perhaps largely because half of the 7,000
poplulation are traditional native Hawaiians, and the island has
not been over-deleveloped for tourism.
Called 'The Friendly Isle', Molokai
has a spectacular & varied landscape. The eastern shore
has lush tropical reserves, the northern shore, 2000ft sea cliffs
broken by stunning valleys. The west shoreline descends into
charming & remote fishing villages & Hawaii's largest
beach, at Papohaku, with the southern shore having shallow waters
& ancient fishing ponds.
This is a fairly quiet island, full
of true Hawaiian spirit, and has not been overdeveloped for
tourism. There are only a few hotels & lodges on the
island and they are all small & personal. But if you
are looking for unsofisticated peace and tranquility, with
breathtaking scenery, a few days on Molokai
is for you.
The islands that make up the
Hawaiian chain are all very different and each can offer a diverse
and distinct experience to the visitor. For more information
on all these beautiful islands, you can visit the official Hawaii
Tourism website, The Hawaiian Islands, for lots of advice
and interesting facts.
