The Maitai Rangiroa Lagoon Resort is located on one of the largest lagoons in the Southern Hemisphere and just a short 50 minute flight from Papeete on Tahiti.
This 3 star resort has recently been bought by Accor hotel group from Novotel chain, and they have just completed a huge renovation package including refubishment of accommodation, gardens, beach and public areas as well as building a feature beachside pool with pool deck.
The Resort features 22 Garden (Tapa) Bungalows, 10 Premium Garden (Vini) Bungalows and 6 Lagoon View Bungalows, all recently refurbished and upgraded. The Tapa Bungalows are set in the tropical landscaped gardens, just a short walk from the beachfront, and offer 31sqm in a semi-detached traditional Polynesian-style thatched bungalow. They provide a king bed (or 2 singles if required), an ensuite bathroom with separate toilet, shower, hairdryer and complimentary toiletries, a airy sitting area with desk and chair, sofa, in-room safe, tea and coffee making facilities, mini-bar/fridge, flat screen TV, telephone, fan and air conditioning, solid wood floors and French doors opening out onto a private furnished deck with views of the landscaped gardens. The Vini Bungalows are set in the gardens a short walk from the beach, pool and restaurant, and are slightly larger than the Tapa Bungalows, offering 34sqm in a detached bungalow, but offer the same amenities, plus a single sofabed in the sitting area. The Lagoon View Bungalows are the same as the Vini Bungalows but have a larger deck area and face directly onto the beach and the beautiful lagoon.
The new Blue Lagoon Restaurant offers a wide range of dishes, of fresh lagoon-caught fish, salads, pastas and meats, with a Polynesian/French flavour. They use as much local produce as possible, and also have a good wine selection, as well as the well-stocked Mawake Bar. During high season and busy times, there is a weekly fun Polynesian party night with delicious food and live entertainment.
The Maitai Rangiroa offers a variety of water-based leisure activities, including complimentary kayaks and snorkelling equipment. There is not a very large beach area, and the shoreline is a little rocky, but there is a brand new beachfront pool and sundeck to enjoy, and the lagoon is easily access from the jetty if you don't want to enter from the shore. This resort is ideal as a base for diving and snorkelling in the turquoise lagoon, which is home to stunning coral reef formations, many variaties of fish, sharks (smaller non-man-eating kind!) and other amazing sealife. The lagoon is listed as one of the top 5 diving destinations in the world and there is a snorkelling/Scuba diving centre nearby, and glass-bottom boat excursions to experience the beauty of the living seas. The Resort also has bicycles and dune buggies for hire for a fun day out or just to have a day trip to a nearby village or restaurant.
The resort offers a range of facilities for guests, including a 24 hour reception, currency exchange (notice may be required for large amounts), Wi-Fi across the resort, PC with internet access, fax service, laundry service, a gift/sundries shop, babysitting service, and luggage storage. There is also a car hire desk and an activities and excursions desk that can book and arrange many different tours and activities out of the resort, including diving, fishing, village and pearl farm visits.
The Maitai Rangiroa has undergone a huge transformation since the new owners took over! It was always in a beautiful location, with stunning views, but with the upgrading, this resort now offers quality accommodation and services at a reasonable price.

Although there are frequent
international flights into Tahiti, there are limited airports of
embarkation to choose from, with currently only Paris, Los Angeles,
Auckland and Tokyo offering single plane air service to
Tahiti.
The international airline for French Polynesia. is Air Tahiti
Nui, who operate daily flights from Paris and Los
Angeles to Tahiti, and on some days there are additional fights
to/from Los Angeles. In addition, they operate two weekly flights
to/from Auckland and they serve Tokyo twice a week. Their services
to New York and Sydney have been suspended, at this
time.
Air France
currently offer a service from Paris, three times a week via Los
Angeles
Air New Zealand
operates daily flights via LA to Papeete, and 5 days a week from/to
Auckland with it's own aircraft. It also operates a codeshare
arrangements with Air Tahiti Nui providing seats on their fights
from Tahiti to Auckland and Los Angeles.
United Airlines operate 3 times a week from San Francisco to Papeete, on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, which will connect to their daily flight from Heathrow.
Air Calin
operate a weekly flight between Noumea, in New Caledonia, and
Tahiti.
Hawaiian
Airlines provide a weekly service between Honolulu and
Tahiti, currently operating on a Saturday/Sunday schedule.
LANChile
operate a flight once a week from Santiago to Tahiti via
Easter Island, providing the availability to do a great side trip
from Tahiti to Easter island.
Air Tahiti is
French Polynesia's domestic airline, which operates an extensive
domestic flight network covering all the country's main islands,
with at least a daily service. With the main Society islands
receiving a number of flights a day, since Air Moorea stopped
operations between Tahiti and Moorea, the flight connections now to
Moorea have become limited, most connections between the two are
now done by ferry boat.
The less populated and outer islands have a restricted service, so
sometimes a night stop in Tahiti may be required when connecting to
these islands.
Air Tahiti
provide the only air service between Tahiti and the Cook islands,
which they currently do once a week on a Thursday, an extra high
season flight is operated between June and August
There are a number of aircraft and helicopters available for private charters, but they all tend to be based in Tahiti so arranging charters between the outer islands can be expensive as the aircraft will originate and terminate in Tahiti.
Airline Seat Maps
For most airlines, we can pre-reserve seats for you once your flight booking is confirmed, and will do so as a matter of course.
