The Hotel Le Mahana is located on the southern coast of the small island paradise that is Huahine-Iti. On a sheltered bay of crystal clear waters and a coral reef just offshore, the resort is right on the lovely sandy beach with unobstructed views out to the reef and the sea, with wonderful views of Raiatea and Taha'a islands and the amazing sunsets.
They offer 33 bungalows set along the beachfront and in the landscaped gardens, but all just a few steps from the sea. Apart from the unique Traditional Fare (bungalow) (refurb due late 2019), they have all been recently refurbished and offer modern amenities with traditional Tahitian styling. The duplex Garden Bungalows offer 1 King bed plus 2 single bed or daybeds, ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower, ceiling fan and sliding doors opening to a private furnished deck with garden views. Garden Bungalows can be interconnecting, ideal for families or friends. The 4 Lagoon Front Bungalows are the same as the Garden Bungalows, just closer to the beach with lagoon views. The detached Deluxe Lagoon View Bungalows are 1 row back from the beach but are just a few steps from the beach and still have a lagoon view through the palm trees. The Deluxe Beach Bungalows are set right on the edge of the beach with uninterrupted lagoon views. They both offer 1 King and 1 Single bed or daybed, modern ensuite bathroom with outdoor shower in a private courtyard garden and doors opening to your private furnished deck. The Traditional Fare (house) is right on the beach with the deck overhanging the water. The Fare is individual and has been built with local woods, like coconut and bamboo, and pandanus thatched roof. It has a king bed, ensuite bathroom and uninterupted views of the turquoise lagoon right outside your door.
Dining at Le Mahana is an experience in itself, with the choice of sitting in the pleasant inside dining room with great sea views, or outside on the sand under the gazebos and shady trees. Their menu includes fresh, modern island cuisine with a strong French infuence, and included crab and lobster, when available. Many of the ingredients are grown onsite or locally or freshly made on site, and the bar offers a good selection of popular drinks, along with cocktails and iced coconut water all day.
Hotel Le Mahana had plenty to keep you entertained, with complimentary use of kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and snorkelling equipment, or for a small cost, use of the resort's sdmall motor boat. The white sand beach offers easy access into the warm, shallow water, with a coral garden just offshore, great for snorkelling, or swim in the pool if you prefer. You can also hire a car, quads, scooters or bicycles direct from Europcar, who have a desk in the hotel. They can also arrange excursions and day trips around the island, including guided hikes, island boat tour including picnic lunch, fishing or scuba diving.
Huahine is well off the normal tourist radar, but is well worth a visit to experience the true Polynesia. Due to the lower number of visitors, you will never feel you are swamped with other guests, and the Hotel Le Mahana should be considered for your off the beaten track stay, a pleasant resort with good facilities and in a great location.

Although there are frequent
international flights into Tahiti, French Polynesia's international
gateway to the World, there are limited airports of embarkation to
choose from, with currently only Paris, Los Angeles, Auckland and
Tokyo offering single plane air service to Tahiti.
The international airline for French Polynesia. is Air Tahiti
Nui, who operate daily flights from Paris and Los
Angeles to Tahiti, and on some days there are additional fights
to/from Los Angeles. In addition, they operate two weekly flights
to/from Auckland and they serve Tokyo twice a week. Their services
to New York and Sydney have been suspended, at this
time.
Air France
currently offer a service from Paris, three times a week via Los
Angeles
Air New Zealand
operates daily flights via LA to Papeete, and 5 days a week from/to
Auckland with it's own aircraft. It also operates a codeshare
arrangements with Air Tahiti Nui providing seats on their fights
from Tahiti to Auckland and Los Angeles.
United Airlines operate 3 times a week from San Francisco to Papeete, on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, which will connect to their daily flight from Heathrow.
Air Calin
operate a weekly flight between Noumea, in New Caledonia, and
Tahiti.
Hawaiian
Airlines provide a weekly service between Honolulu and
Tahiti, currently operating on a Saturday/Sunday schedule.
LANChile
operate a flight once a week from Santiago to Tahiti via
Easter Island, providing the availability to do a great side trip
from Tahiti to Easter island.
Air Tahiti is
French Polynesia's domestic airline, which operates an extensive
domestic flight network covering all the country's main islands,
with at least a daily service. With the main Society islands
receiving a number of flights a day, since Air Moorea stopped
operations between Tahiti and Moorea, the flight connections now to
Moorea have become limited, most connections between the two are
now done by ferry boat.
The less populated and outer islands have a restricted service, so
sometimes a night stop in Tahiti may be required when connecting to
these islands.
Air Tahiti
provide the only air service between Tahiti and the Cook islands,
which they currently do once a week on a Thursday, an extra high
season flight is operated between June and August
There are a number of aircraft and helicopters available for private charters, but they all tend to be based in Tahiti so arranging charters between the outer islands can be expensive as the aircraft will originate and terminate in Tahiti. Tahiti Nui Helicopters are one such company that operate resort transfers (where helipad available), inter-island flights and sightseeing trips. Contact us for further info.
Airline Seat Maps
For most airlines, we can pre-reserve seats for you once your flight booking is confirmed, and will do so as a matter of course. If you would like to have a look at a seat plan for your aircraft, check the airlines' own website, or one of the best independent websites for this information is SeatGuru.com, which is part of the Tripadvisor group.
