The Sandy Beach Resort is located on a stunningly beautiful, unspoiled white sand beach on the island of Foa, which is one of the islands which make up Tonga's Ha'apai group.  The Ha'apai islands are  the middle island grouping of the three main island groups that form the Kingdom of Tonga.

The resort is owned and run by a father and son team, Jurgen and Boris Stavemow, who have been in Tonga since the late '80's, having first run one of the best restaurants in Nuku'alofa before selling up in 1995 and moving north, and building the resort.

The 12 bungalows are built on the sand and crushed coral that runs down to the beach.  They offer 1 King or 2 Single beds, an ensuite bathroom with a large walk-in shower and solar-powered hot water supply, a bistro coffee table and chairs, ceiling fan, small fridge with replenished drinking water, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a private shaded deck, with sun loungers and table and chairs, overlooking the beach and the lagoon. The sun loungers can be taken down onto the beach if you wish to relax there. They are clean and pleasant and offer a good standard of accommodation, but are not deluxe.  However, what is deluxe is the resorts' location, which is truly an ideal spot for your away from it all, sand-between-your-toes experience.

The restaurant offers a tropical breakfast selection, light bites and snacks all day, and evening dinner menu, that offers fresh fish and lobster, steaks, chicken and pork, with locally grown vegetables and salads.  The Bar is open all day but only to guests, and the terrace is a lovely spot to enjoy a cool coconut cocktail and watch the sunset.  There is also a guest library, so you can find a good book, in several languages, sit with a cool drink and just relax.

The Resort is set on one of the best beaches in the Northern island group, and gives easy access into the warm shallow water for swimming and snorkelling.  They have a number of kayaks, and have guided kayaking excursions, which are free for guests to join, as are bicycles and guided nature walks.  If you don't fancy walking, you can go on a guided horseback ride, using the local village horses, and ride bareback through the bush and along the beaches.  Humpback whales are in the area from July to October to breed and give birth, and the Resort can arrange whale-watching excursions, where you might even get to swim with these beautiful creatures.  Diving excursions can also be arranged as well.

The Ha'apai group of islands do not have the simplest  of journey in the world to get too, but the trip is well worth the effort to visit these beautiful, unspoiled islands and their freindly people, and the Sandy Beach Resort could be the ideal place for you to stay.
