The Reef Resort is a small, personal boutique property located on Kapa, one of the small islands off the southern coast of Vava'u main island.
Set on a quiet, white sand beach, surrounded by tropical gardens, there are only 4 fales (bungalows) to share it with, so you will never feel crowded!
2 Fales are located amongst the tropical gardens on a small raised hill overlooking the sea, and just a short stroll to the beach, and 2 are set right on the beachfront with spectacular sea views.
Each Fale offers light and airy accommodation with cool tiled floors, double bed, ensuite bathroom with double vanity and walk-in shower, hairdryer, air conditioning and ceiling fans, a sitting area with single day bed, 2 easy chairs and coffee table, music system for iPod or MP3 connections, Wi-Fi internet access, tea and coffee making facilities, fridge and sliding patio doors opening to a spacious private deck with chairs and sun loungers, overlooking the beach or the lagoon.
As the Reef Resort is owned by 2 experienced professional chefs, dining here is a welcome surprise and a great pleasure. Josef and Renate spent most of their working life creating delicious dishes in top class restaurants in Switzerland and Germany, and several Hilton Hotels around the world, before sailing the world, finally settling in Tonga and creating the Reef Resort. The beautifully appointed restaurant and bar wouldn't look out of place in a much bigger resort, and has floor-to-ceiling bi-folding doors along one complete wall, which, when opened up fully, encompasses the indoor space into the outdoor terrace deck with ease. The restaurant serves a daily a la carte breakfast, a light lunch (or lunchbox/picnic if you are out exploring!), freshly baked cakes for afternoon tea and 3 course evening dinner. There is no set menu each day, but they discuss dining options with their guests, go shopping at the local market, then come back and create dishes to suit your requirements, almost like having your own private chef! The Pacific Ocean around Vava'u provides an abundant and diverse selection of seafood, from fresh Tuna, Wahoo, Snapper and huge lobsters, to the organic meat and chicken flown in from New Zealand and fresh vegetables, salads and fruits all grown locally.
In the afternoons, freshly baked cakes and freshly brewed coffee is served in the lounge or on the terrace, or you can enjoy a cool drink or cocktail from the bar, and just sit and enjoy the view of the beach and the ocean.
Being set right on the beach, the Reef Resort is in an ideal location to enjoy the complimentary watersports that are available to guests, including hobie cat sailing, kayaks, snorkeling equipment and wet suits for snorkeling or even whale watching, if you're really lucky! The resort boat will also take you out to the famous Japanese Garden coral reef, one of the best snorkeling spots around the islands, and there are several caves, reefs, coves and deserted beaches around the islands that are within easy reach with the kayaks or the Resort boat.
Other activities around the island can be arranged and booked by the friendly staff in the Resort, including the very popular whale watching/swimming excursions, (July-November), guided bush walking and village visits, horse riding, sailing or deep sea fishing.
The Reef Resort offers comfortable, contemporary accommodation, in a breathtakingly beautiful location, but the main allure of this Resort are the owners and staff, who look after you better than family, wait on your every need, and offer the kind of personal service that some 5* Resorts would envy. You will leave here planning your next trip back!

There are regular regional international flight connections to and from Tonga, all international flights operate into Nuku'alofa on the main southern island of Tongatapu the nationals capitol, currently there are no international flights into the second Island grouping of Vava'u.
There is currently no Tongan national airline, so air connections to/from the Island are provided by other nations carriers. Virgin Australia operate regular service from Auckland and Sydney, with connections to many other Australian cities, but they do not currently operate any flights out side the southwest pacific region.
Fiji Airways, formerly Air Pacific operate five flights a week from/to Fiji, twice weekly service between Tonga and Nadi which provide connections to their Nadi to Los Angeles, and Nadi to Hong Kong services, plus there are three flights a week between Tonga and Suva.
The main airline providing same carrier service to the USA and Europe is Air New Zealand with direct service to/from Auckland provided five days a week (some seasonal variations apply) and there is a week non-stop flight to and from Los Angeles, currently departing Tonga on Tuesday nights going via Samoa, arriving in LA on Tuesday, the return flight leaves LA on a Tuesday and again going via Samoa arrives in Tonga on Thursday morning. Currently, this flight also provides the only air service between Samoa and Tonga.
At this time there is only one airline providing domestic flights within the Tonga islands, however the history of the domesitc flight operations in Tonga has been a little patchy over the years.....so we can up date you with the current situation when you call.
