The Etu Moana Beach Villas Resort is a small, friendly and personal Boutique Resort, located on a lovely white sand beach with stunning views over the Aitutaki Lagoon.
From the moment you are personally met at the airport with a fresh flower lei, to your arrival at the Resort, welcomed with a coconut cocktail, the friendly staff will do everything to make your stay a special experience.
Etu Moana, which means 'blue starfish' in the Maori langauage, offers just 10 Polynesian-style detached villas, with thatched roofs, large, private covered veradahs and modern furnishing and facilities but with a traditional Polynesian feel. Hardwood floors, exposed beams, teak furniture and local art work to create a personal and Polynesian atmosphere. The villa bathrooms were all refurbished in early 2018.
Each self-catering villa has the same floorplan, and is arranged in 2 rows of 5 villas, starting at the beachfront, going up the 1.5 acre property through the lush tropical gardens, but they all have a view of the ocean, though some are through the tropical plants in the gardens. The villa categories are Garden and Lagoon View, Pool and Lagoon View, Beach View and Absolute Beachfront. They offer a fully equipped kitchen with gas hob, fridge/freezer, tea and coffee making facilities, purified drinking water tap and sink, a King size bed plus a day bed, air conditioning, ceiling fan, ensuite bathroom with indoor and outdoor courtyard garden showers, bathrobes and hairdryer, satelite TV, DVD/CD player, IDD telephone, iron and ironing board, in-room safe and sliding patio doors to a private furnished and covered verandah. All windows and doors have insect screens.
Although the Etu Moana Beach Villas are self-catering, they do provide a complimentary tropical breakfast in the Pool House every morning, offering a selection of breads, jams, pastries, freshly sliced fruit, juices, tea and coffee, which can be taken back to your villa if you wish. There is an Honesty Bar by the pool, where you can pour yourself a cool drink to sip and watch the world, or lack of it, go by!
For other dining options, there are a couple of restaurants and cafes within walking distance, and other local towns and villages are only a short drive or cycle ride away, using the Resorts' complimentary bicycles, hire car or taxi. The very helpful, friendly staff are always happy to direct and recommend
Etu Moana offers complimentary use of kayaks, snorkeling equipment, reef shoes, bicycles, DVD and book library, and for a small fee they also offer a laundry service, WiFi Internet access, scooter hire and the pool side Honesty Bar. Nearby you can book a round of golf, a lagoon cruise, sport fishing trips or guided hikes and island tours.
Weddings are also a very popular at Etu Moana, and they can arrange your perfect day for you, complete with Polynesian wedding arch decorated with tropical flowers, a decorated vaka (Polynesian canoe), Polynesian band, champagne, flowers and a cake, plus all the legal paperwork. There would only be your wedding held on a particular day, so no chance of crossing paths with another bridal party at any time! A professional photographer can be booked as well, if you so wish.
Etu Moana is a quiet, peaceful Resort in a great location on the Aitutaki Lagoon, and close to many attractions and experiences, as well as local towns for shopping, eating and nightlife. The staff are waiting to welcome you and will go out of their way to make your stay as wonderful as possible.

Currently, there are very limited International flight connections to and from the Cook islands. All international flights operate into Rarotonga and there are domestic connection flights into Aitutaki, Atiu and Mangaia.
The main international carrier is Air New Zealand, with direct air service provided six days a week from and to Auckland (currently there is no flight on a Friday), and once a week to and from Los Angeles, currently departing Rarotonga on a Friday arriving LA on the Saturday. The return flight leaves LA on Saturday and arrives Rarotonga on Sunday morning. They operate on a new B777-200ER aircraft, with 26 Business, 40 Premium Economy and 246 Economy seats. The Premium Economy seats are the first to be offered on this route.
There is also a year round once a week flight with Air New Zealand between Rarotonga and Sydney, departing Rarotonga on Thursday arriving Sydney on Friday and departing Sydney on Friday arriving in Rarotonga on Friday, operating on a B767-300 aircraft, with 24 Business and 206 Economy seats.
There is also a year round once a week flight with Air New Zealand between Rarotonga and Sydney, departing Rarotonga on a Friday arriving Sydney on Saturday and departing Sydney on Saturday arriving in Rarotonga on Saturday. From November 2016, the schedule will change to opertaing ex Rarotonga on a Thursday and returning from Sydney on Friday, operating on a B767-300 aircraft, with 24 Business and 206 Economy seats.
Virgin Australia operate 3 days a week from Auckland to Rarotonga, using a 737 aircraft, departing Auckland on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, arriving in Rarotonga the previous day (as you cross the International dateline), and returning flights Tuesday, Thursday and Friday arriving two days later (cross the International dateline again in the other direction adding a day, plus arriving after midnight into the next day).
Also, for the winter months, (June-October 2016), they will be operating a direct flight Christchurch, on New Zealand's South Island, to Rarotonga. Departing on Saturday and arriving in Rarotonga on Friday (cross the date line), and returning the same day, Friday to arrive back in Christchurch on Sunday (date line and midnight time crossing), this will save visitors having to travel up to Auckland to get to the Cook Islands.
Jetstar, a new
airline starting in New Zealand, started a new flight schedule from
Auckland to Rarotonga in March 2016. At present, they are
planning to operate from and to Auckland on Tuesday, Saturday and
Sunday, with the return flight being the same days, due to arriving
and departing after midnight, and will arrive back in Auckland the
following days, due to crossing the international dateline.
Air Tahiti
operate up to twice weekly flights from Papeete, Tahiti to
Rarotonga, currently on a Saturday and Thursday. However, on
most weeks they only operate the Thursday flight!
All
domestic flights within the Cook islands are operated
by Air Rarotonga. Their main route
is Rarotonga to Aitutaki, on which they operate up to five daily
services, except Sunday, when only one is operated (up till the end
of 2009 no flights were permitted to operate domestically on a
Sunday).
They also provide frequent services to the other main islands in
the Southern group. However, air access to the Northern group
is currently very restricted, to the point where it is almost
impossible for tourists to book flights, due to the limited seats
that are offered. Quite a lot of the time, the
seats are reserved for Government officials and the local residence
of the Northern islands.
Airline Seat Maps
For most airlines, we can pre-reserve seats for you once your flight booking is confirmed, and will do so as a matter of course. If you would like to have a look at a seat plan for your aircraft, you can check the airlines' own website, or one of the best independent websites for this information is SeatGuru.com, which is part of the Tripadvisor group.
