Situated on the stunningly beautiful atoll of Aitutaki, which is just a short 50 minute flight north of Rarotonga, lies the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort, the only private island paradise resort in the Cook Islands and one of the few resorts facing directly onto the stunning Aitutaki Lagoon. This adults only Resorts is situated on a private teardrop-shaped motu, covered with shady palm trees and surrounded by white sand beaches.
The recently fully remodelled Aitutaki Lagoon Resort offers island-style Beachfront Bungalows, with a beach or lagoon view, plus five Deluxe Beachfront Bungalows, 9 brand new Premium Beachfront Bungalows, and 7 Overwater Bungalows. The Beach Bungalows are very comfortable and have been designed, using many local and natural materials, with a warm, island feel and offer 1 King bed plus a single day bed, ensuite shower room with walk-in shower, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, a small kitchenette area with refrigerator, tea and coffee making facilities, small table and 2 chairs, TV with DVD player and satellite channels, CD player, radio alarm clock, telephone, hairdryer, 2 huge picture windows and door opening to a private, furnished sun deck, shaded with palm trees with views of the beach and the sea channel into the lagoon. The spacious Deluxe Bungalows, again offer similar amenities as the Beachfront Bungalows, but additionally offer a Super King size bed in a raised sleeping area, a lounge with 3 pcs suite and coffee table, and larger brand new (2019) sundeck and loungers, with stunning views of the lagoon. The Overwater Bungalows offer stylish, island accommodation with direct access into the beautiful, warm lagoon from the new sundeck, but you are able to walk straight into them from the beach. The back to the bungalow is built over the seawall, so you step from the beach to your door, and the front is built on pylons out into the lagoon, with a new (May 2019) multi-level deck with steps into the water. The spacious interior offers a SuperKing bed, sitting area, a large ensuite shower room with double vanity, shower, and private outdoor courtyard garden with outdoor shower. These bungalows face south, so each day from your private verandah, your sunrise is to your left and the sunset will blaze to the right, giving you the best of both worlds!

There are two restaurants at the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort; the Flying Boat Beach Bar & Grill, set right on Sunset Beach with amazing sunset views, and has recently been fully rebuilt (early 2019) after a sad fire destroyed the original. It offers a casual menu of gourmet pizzas, sizzling hot plates and light bites, as well as the daily complimentary continental breakfast, and the Bounty Restaurant, which offers a more gourmet menu, with fresh seafood, local fruits and vegetables, along with a fine wine selection. The Bounty can also pack a gourmet picnic basket for you, if you want to lunch on a deserted atoll beach. The beach bar is located on the lagoon and offers wonderful panoramic views, a great place to sip that well earned cocktail after a hard day in the sun! Private Sunset & Candlelit Dining can be arranged for that extra dash of romance!
Windsurfing, outrigger canoes, kayaks, hobie cats sailing dinghies, snorkelling equipment, and bicycles are available free to the sports minded guests, and game fishing, scuba diving and tours and excursions can be arranged for you. For those who want to relax in the sun, why not laze around the pool or soothe away the pressures of the outside world on the resort's beautiful unspoiled private white sandy beach. For some pampering, there is the SpaPolynesia to tempt you, with a fitness centre and fitness trail, sauna, jacuzzi, massages and a range of body and beauty treatments, all with a wonderful lagoon view. Every day there is a traditional craft show, where you can learn something new each day, from palm frond weaving to island hula dancing. There is also a games room with board games and a guest library, and giant outdoor chess.
Delight in doing it all... or in doing nothing at all.
The Resort is a lovely place for weddings and honeymoons, and they have a number of stunningly beautiful locations in and around the Resort, to ensure your wedding will be perfect. The Bounty Restaurant is an ideal place for your wedding reception, with high ceilings, wide open verandahs overlooking the pool and Full Moon Channel, and a traditional Polynesian design.
The Aitutaki Lagoon Resort is ideal for those people who want to leave the hustle and bustle behind, and just relax in paradise.

Currently, there are very limited International flight connections to and from the Cook islands. All international flights operate into Rarotonga and there are domestic connection flights into Aitutaki, Atiu and Mangaia.
The main international carrier is Air New Zealand, with direct air service provided six days a week from and to Auckland (currently there is no flight on a Friday), and once a week to and from Los Angeles, currently departing Rarotonga on a Friday arriving LA on the Saturday. The return flight leaves LA on Saturday and arrives Rarotonga on Sunday morning. They operate on a new B777-200ER aircraft, with 26 Business, 40 Premium Economy and 246 Economy seats. The Premium Economy seats are the first to be offered on this route.
There is also a year round once a week flight with Air New Zealand between Rarotonga and Sydney, departing Rarotonga on Thursday arriving Sydney on Friday and departing Sydney on Friday arriving in Rarotonga on Friday, operating on a B767-300 aircraft, with 24 Business and 206 Economy seats.
There is also a year round once a week flight with Air New Zealand between Rarotonga and Sydney, departing Rarotonga on a Friday arriving Sydney on Saturday and departing Sydney on Saturday arriving in Rarotonga on Saturday. From November 2016, the schedule will change to opertaing ex Rarotonga on a Thursday and returning from Sydney on Friday, operating on a B767-300 aircraft, with 24 Business and 206 Economy seats.
Virgin Australia operate 3 days a week from Auckland to Rarotonga, using a 737 aircraft, departing Auckland on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, arriving in Rarotonga the previous day (as you cross the International dateline), and returning flights Tuesday, Thursday and Friday arriving two days later (cross the International dateline again in the other direction adding a day, plus arriving after midnight into the next day).
Also, for the winter months, (June-October 2016), they will be operating a direct flight Christchurch, on New Zealand's South Island, to Rarotonga. Departing on Saturday and arriving in Rarotonga on Friday (cross the date line), and returning the same day, Friday to arrive back in Christchurch on Sunday (date line and midnight time crossing), this will save visitors having to travel up to Auckland to get to the Cook Islands.
Jetstar, a new
airline starting in New Zealand, started a new flight schedule from
Auckland to Rarotonga in March 2016. At present, they are
planning to operate from and to Auckland on Tuesday, Saturday and
Sunday, with the return flight being the same days, due to arriving
and departing after midnight, and will arrive back in Auckland the
following days, due to crossing the international dateline.
Air Tahiti
operate up to twice weekly flights from Papeete, Tahiti to
Rarotonga, currently on a Saturday and Thursday. However, on
most weeks they only operate the Thursday flight!
All
domestic flights within the Cook islands are operated
by Air Rarotonga. Their main route
is Rarotonga to Aitutaki, on which they operate up to five daily
services, except Sunday, when only one is operated (up till the end
of 2009 no flights were permitted to operate domestically on a
Sunday).
They also provide frequent services to the other main islands in
the Southern group. However, air access to the Northern group
is currently very restricted, to the point where it is almost
impossible for tourists to book flights, due to the limited seats
that are offered. Quite a lot of the time, the
seats are reserved for Government officials and the local residence
of the Northern islands.
Airline Seat Maps
For most airlines, we can pre-reserve seats for you once your flight booking is confirmed, and will do so as a matter of course. If you would like to have a look at a seat plan for your aircraft, you can check the airlines' own website, or one of the best independent websites for this information is SeatGuru.com, which is part of the Tripadvisor group.
