Inspired by the Greek legend, and the gold-rush adventurers of old, The Argonaut Hotel is an historic, iconic hotel, located right on the famous Fisherman's Wharf. Built in 1907, originally as a warehouse for the Del Monte fruit company to can the pineapples brought in from Hawaii, The Argonaut has a wealth of historic features, such as exposed 100+ year old brickwork, old Douglas fir beams, rough-hewn wood plank floors and a Maritime Museum on site.
The Hotel has 252 newly renovated (2012) guest rooms and suites, offering contemporary clean lined furnishings, and a nautical themed decor. The nautical theme is not too over-the-top, but just an ambiance, with soft, dark blue and cream feature walls, exposed brickwork, porthole mirrors, cream furniture with darkwood trim, anchor or star-motif bed covers, star shaped cushion and maritime-style wall decorations.
They offer a range of room catagories, offering choices of bed configurations and views, as well as 1-bedroom suites, with extra space and amenities.
Each room features either 1 King, or 1or 2 Queen beds, with premium bedding and pillow-top mattress, ensuite bathroom with bath/shower, bathrobes, complimentary toiletries and hairdryer, tea/coffee making facilities with Starbucks coffee, 37" flat-screen TV with DVD player, internet access, games console and premium channels, telephone, desk and chair, iron and ironing board, CD player, clock/radio, air conditioning, lap-top sized in-room safe, minibar/fridge, plantation-style shutters and picture postcard views from most rooms.
Suites offer extra space and have a king bed in a separate bedroom, a sitting area with queen sofabed, large ensuite bathroom with jacuzzi tub and separate glass-enclosed shower, dining area with table and chairs and multiple windows with views of the Cannery or the Maritime Park.
For dining choices, the Hotel has the Blue Mermaid Chowder House & Bar, offering a large selection of fresh seafood, 6 types of fresh chowder, mussels, oysters, as well as steaks and salads, served along side a wide variety of fine Californian and world wines, cocktails and beers. Room service is available 24 hours a day.
Alternatively, the many bars and restaurants of the Fisherman's Wharf area, as well as downtown San Fransisco are only a short walk, or cable car ride away.
Each evening, the Hotel hosts a complimentary wine hour, between 5-6pm, when the Hotel's Master Sommelier chooses a selection of fine wines for you to sample, whilst enjoying a relaxing start to your evening and meeting new friends.
The Argonaut has a well equipped fitness centre for guests to use, including cardio machines, free weights and resistance equipment, and they have yoga mats and equipment available for loan, and a yoga instructional channel on the TV, for guests to use in their rooms if they wish.
They also offer in-room Spa Services, providing massage, body and facial treatments, all in the comfort and privacy of your room.
75% of San Fransisco's tourists visit the Fisherman's Wharf area of San Fransisco at some point during their trip, and staying at The Argonaut Hotel, you'll be staying right at the heart of everything. The Wharf itself offers a huge amount of maritime history, with a Maritime Museum in the hotel, the Hyde Street pier with the historic tall sail ships, the shopping, restaurants and boutiques of Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, The Aquarium of the Bay, The Cannery Shopping Centre, directly adjacent to the Hotel, and amazing views of Alcatraz Island & Prison, and the Golden Gate Bridge.
The rest of San Fransisco is also easily accessible, as the cable car stops are just nearby.
The Argonaut at Fisherman's Wharf is a great hotel to stay at to see the most popular attractions around San Fransisco, and is also well placed to explore further afield, as well. This is a unique boutique hotel, offering quality accommodation, without needing a mortgage.
