Located on Lalomano Beach on the South coast of the main island of Upolu, the Litia Sini Beach is a real different beach experience. This property calls itself a Resort, but we feel the term may be a little misleading, as it is a collection of traditional-style bungalows right on the beach, with the new restaurant and beach bar, but with none of the luxury infrastructure one expects from a resort hotel, such as pools, spas and other facilities. However, it is a very special location for any one looking for a sand-between-your-toes beach experience with a real difference, the real, customary Samoan way.
After the earthquake and resulting Tsunami on 29th September 2009, a 30ft wave made a direct hit in this resort, totally destroying everything the family had built. With the help of family and friends, and even previous guests, they have completely rebuilt the property form the ground up, with improved buildings, furnishings and facilities. There is a large new beachfront bar, restaurant and sundeck, and the beach and gardens are back to normal.
The accommodation is in traditional Samoan-style bungalows built among a replanted palm grove right on a stunning white sand beach. The bungalows only offer a sheltered place to sleep and keep dry out of the occasional rain shower. They do not offer any ensuite bathroom facilities or creature comforts. Bathroom facilities are available in a shared toilet and shower block, just behind the bungalows, all of which is brand new after being recently rebuilt following the Tsunami in 2009. Although the bungalows may be a little basic for some people, there is no beating the views from the decks!
The brand new Litia's Restaurant is open all day for breakfast, lunch, dinner plus snacks and sandwiches, and the Cool Bar offers a good selection of wine, beer, soft drinks, juices and cocktails. A tropical breakfast and dinner including tea and coffee, are included in the room rates. Lunch is not included, giving you the option to explore out and about during the day without worrying about getting back to the restaurant in time or miss out! Cold drinks are also extra, but the new beach bar has a varied selection of beer, wine, cocktails, fruit juices, champagne and soft drinks to sample.
Although Litia Sini is a small and personal property, there are many activities to fill your days. From beach walks, fantastic snorkeling (equipment available to hire), swimming, fishing, beach volleyball and kite flying on the white sandy beach, to mountain hiking, Samoan cultural and village tours, local bus excursions and Samoan Church services to experience. They also have table tennis, darts and other games available, a free Samoan dance show every Saturday night, and the area is stunning for photography. And of course, you can just do nothing and relax on the white sand beach and in the warm Pacific waters.
The Litia Sini is not for those clients looking for a full service resort hotel experience, but if the idea of living the simple, sand-between-your-toes, real Robinson Crusoe experience is what your after, in a truly wonderful beach location, then this is the place for you.
(Some of the photos are new and others show the resort as it was before the Tsunami. New photos will be uploaded when they are available.)
