Set amongst lush, tropical hillside gardens, full of hibiscus, palm trees and manicured lawns, and only 20 minutes from the ferry wharf, the Amoa Resort, formally known as the Suifaga Beach Resort, is a small, friendly property on the scenic island of Savaii. Located in the traditional Samoan village of Suifaga, you get the experience of real Samoa in the village life.
The property was taken over by new management in 2015 and was completely refurbished before opening as the new Amoa Resort in 2016, as well as further work completed in 2019.
Accommodation is offered in 11 spacious detached bungalows and 4 brand new duplex Garden Rooms. The 3 Deluxe Bungalows have a queen bed in a raised bedroom area, ensuite bathroom with private outdoor tropical shower, sitting area with a single bed, air conditioning, refrigerator, mini-bar, iron and ironing board, TV with local channels, in-room safe, daily replenished tea and coffee making facilities, and a shaded terrace with tropical garden or beach views. The 8 Poolside and Family Villas provide similar amenities as the Deluxe Bungalows, but have a King bed in the sleeping area, and either a 2nd king bed or 2 singles in the living area. The 4 brand new (2019) duplex Garden Rooms offers the same standard amenities as the bungalows, plus 2 Queen beds in the spacious, open plan room, a modern ensuite bathroom with contemporary enclosed outdoor 'sky-view' shower, sitting area, and interconnecting door that allows 2 Garden Rooms to be joined together for families or groups. They are located in the tropical gardens, just behind the Poolside Villas, so close to the pool, bar and restaurant, and a short stroll across to the beach.
The Amoa Resort open air restaurant offers a complimentary tropical breakfast every morning, which also offers fresh lunch and dinner menus, with selections of Italian, Polynesian and seafood dishes, all with a pool and lagoon view. Much of the food is locally sourced or fished just offshore.
There is a a small bar to enjoy a cocktail whilst watching the sunset, and if you fancy a cool drink when enjoying the freshwater pool, there is a swim-up pool bar to provide that for you.
The Resort is just the other side of a minor road from the white sand beach, where you can swim, snorkel around the jetty and relax on the sand. In 2017, they completed work on a coral retaining wall and replenished the sand to build up the beach area, which now give guests a lovely beach area to sit and relax. The 2nd phase is now complete, which includes a privacy wall between the beach and the road, and tropical planting to soften the look, as well as the new Lagoon Deck, with seating and fabulous lagoon views.
They offer a selection of activities most days, including Samoan cooking, village walks and kayaking, as well as offering full day guided tours in association with Safua Tours, led by a retired Australian geologist, which are relaxed and educational, focusing on Samoa's natural history, culture, archaeology and geology. Snorkelling gear is available to hire and Wi-Fi is available resort wide for a fee.
Close by there is a general store, about 1 km away, providing fresh, tinned and frozen food, snacks, toiletries, general supplies and drinks, and the staff would be glad to assist with transportation, if required. The nearby town of Salelologa offers a further choice of restaurants, bars and shopping and Reception can arrange a taxi to collect you within 10-15 minutes. Taxi would cost approx £10-12 each way, or you can hire a car in Salelogo. Once you have registered your UK license with the Ministry of Transport office there, they will give you a temporary Samoan License for about £6-7. Having a car is a great way to see the rest of the island of Savaii, when you don't fancy sitting on the beach or snorkeling the clear turquoise waters of the lagoon. If you don't fancy a car, the local bus service runs daily from the Resort to the market in Salelologa and would cost approximately £2 each way, just check with the driver when he is going back to the Resort!
Overall, the Amoa Resort represents good value in respectable, spacious accommodation and is well located to experience all that Savaii has to offer.

international flight connections to and from the Samoan Islands and
all international flights that do operate, do so into Apia on the
island of Upolu. Currently there are no international flights
into the second Island of Savai'i.
Samoas' main carrier is Virgin Samoa, formerly
Polynesian Blue, which is a joint company operated by
Virgin and the Samoan government. Along with Virgin
Australia they operate regular services to Auckland,
Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, with connections to many other
Australian cities, but they do not currently operate any flights
outside the southwest pacific region. The country's other
carrier is Polynesian Airlines which operates the daily "
air-bridge " between Apia and Pago Pago in American Samoa.
Fiji Airways, (was Air Pacific)
operate a twice weekly service between Apia and Nadi which provide
connections to their Nadi-Los Angeles, and Nadi-Hong Kong service,
or other airines flights departing Nadi, but this will require a 1
night stop over in Nadi due to flight timings.
The main long haul airline providing same service to the USA
and Europe is Air New
Zealand, with direct service to/from Auckland,
provided four days a week (some seasonal variations apply) and
there is a weekly non-stop flight to and from Los Angeles,
currently departing Apia on Monday nights arriving LA on Tuesday.
The return flight leaves LA on a Tuesday and arrives Apia on
Wednesday morning. Currently, one of the Air New Zealand flights
routes via Tonga providing the only air service between Samoa and
Tonga.
At present, there are no domestic flights within the Samoan
islands and connections from Upolu to Savai'i are at this time only
provided by car ferry ship, which provides frequent daily sailings
between the two main islands, and takes
approximately 1 hour.
