During April to December 2012 the hotel will be undertaking an upgrade programme to its public areas and its rooms. The upgrade is limited to redecorating and new design and soft furnishing replacement...no major construction is being undertaken so customer disruption will be minimal.
Founded in 1933, Aggie Grey's was named after the popular matriarch of the Grey family, and Samoa's most iconic hotel is still run by her descendants today. Throughout the 30's and 40's, Aggie Grey's was 'the' hotel to stay at in the South Pacific, a true South Pacific legend. Afternoon Tea with English sandwiches and cakes still add that feeling of historic elegance and gracious ambiance today, whilst the drums that announce dinner add that touch of Samoan flavour.
The hotel overlooks Apia Harbour and being just a 10 minute stroll into the centre of town, it's close to many great restaurants and tourist attractions.
During WWII, it was the Club to be seen at for American serviceman stationed in Samoa. It was called the British Club, where Aggie served hotdogs and hamburgers to the US servicemen and the rest, as they say, is history! In the immediate years after the 2nd World War, the Hotel's warm and friendly atmosphere made it an island retreat for some famous movie personalities of the time, including Gary Cooper (after whom the cocktail bar is named), William Holden, Marlon Brando, Raymond Burr and our own Robert Morley, and in more modern times, Denholm Elliot, Tia Carera and Cheryl Ladd as well as Royalty, Presidents and Prime Ministers. Now this warm, friendly atmosphere is available to todays' international traveller.
There are 86 standard Hibiscus Rooms, 26 Deluxe Garden Bungalows, 34 Deluxe New Wing Rooms and 2 luxurious Suites. All rooms offer ensuite facilities with vanity and bathroom area, hairdryer, air conditioning, wall-mounted fans, bar fridge, tea/coffee making facilities, iron & ironing board, in-room safe, IDD telephone, TV with cable and movie channels and either a small patio or balcony with garden furniture.
There are 2 Restaurants, 2 bars and the Coffee Shop to choose from at Aggie Grey's.
The Poolside Fale Bar & Grill is the centre point of Aggie Grey's for a breakfast buffet, casual poolside lunches and Pacific style dinners, with a new menu daily, as well as barbecues and Mongolian buffet along with live entertainment and traditonal Fire Dance shows on selected nights. Open since the 1960's, this Restaurant is housed in an age old fale looking onto the Hotel's Blue Swimming Pool. The interior is made of ancient intricate carvings of old Samoa and woven Coconut threads hold the timbered pillars together. Le Tamarina Restaurant is their signature Restaurant and one frequented by Royalty, Presidents, Heads of States and many famous faces. This elegantly appointed Restaurant is located in the new Aggie Grey's building and is air conditioned with sweeping views of the Apia Harbour. The Coffee Lounge is open daily and located in the main foyer of the Hotel lobby serving fresh coffees and an array of light snacks as well as offering a Black Board menu for breakfasts and lunches. For cocktails or drinks you have the choice of The Poolside Fale, The Gary Cooper Poolside Bar or the Le Kionasina Cocktail Lounge, where you can get Aggie's Special cocktail, whose ingredients are still a secret today!
The large pool and pooldeck offers a place to cool down or relax in the sun in one of the many loungers, or if you want a bit more exercise, there is a air-conditioned well equipped fitness room.
As the Hotel is just on the edge of town, facing right onto the harbour, all the restaurants, shops and tourist attractions are only a few minute walk away. There are also many tours and experiences, such as diving, deep sea fishing, hiking and golfing, and all can be arranged by the Hotel Tour Desk in the lobby.
Aggie Grey's is a great historic Hotel to visit the main town, and would be ideal combined with a beach-based Resort to complete your Samoan experience.

Samoas' main carrier is Polynesian Blue, which is
a joint company operated by Virgin and the Samoan government.
Along with Virgin Blue they operate regular
services to Auckland, Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, with
connections to many other Australian cities, but they do not
currently operate any flights outside the southwest pacific

which operates the daily " air-bridge " between Apia and Pago Pago
in American Samoa.
Air Pacific operate a twice weekly service between
Apia and Nadi which provide connections to their Nadi-Los Angeles,

Nadi.
The main long haul airline providing
same service to the USA and Europe is Air New
Zealand with direct service to/from Auckland, provided

weekly non-stop flight to and from Los Angeles, currently departing
Apia on Monday nights arriving LA on Tuesday, the return flight

Currently one of the Air New Zealand flights routes via Tonga

At present, there are no domestic flights within the Samoan

between the two main islands, and takes
approximately 1 hour.
