Masterton is a
large town in the Wellington Region of the North Island, with
an estimated population of 20,100 in the urban centre, rising to
23,500 when including the rural and suburb areas. It is 62
miles (100km) north-east of Wellington and is separated from
the capital city by the Rimutaka Mountain range.
The town is a prosperous
community, supporting many industrial, service and rural
farming industries. Attractions range from farm or garden
tours, jet boating and hot air ballooning, to fishing and surfing,
winery tours and numerous outdoors activites.
Transport in and around the region
is plentiful and reliable, including buses, trains and road
travel.
