The Mauri Paradise is a truly Eco-tourism experience.  The hotel is situated in the village of Bairiki on the northern tip of the main island of Tarawa, which is reached by a two hour boat ride from South Tarawa.

 

The Hotel consists of 4 twin sleeping accommodations, one main meeting hut, a kitchen hut, a wash hut with very basic amenities and a toilet hut, which has a great view of the beach!  If you did not know it was a hotel you would think it was just another village compound.  The cuisine is mainly fish and shellfish, which are caught in the ocean right in front of the property.  The hotel has its own generator to supply power for cooking, but oil lamps or candles supply light.  Just a tip, the Mauri is not a place to take your designer clothes, but if you are looking to experience how the pacific islanders live their day to day village life then a stay at the Mauri Paradise will provide you with a truly unique and memorable experience.

 

Please note we use the term 'hotel' in the loosest possible way, as we could not think of another term to describe a collection of 6 bamboo and palm thatched huts on the beach that you pay to stay at!
