Situated peacefully on a southern corner of Maui, the Makena Beach & Golf Resort, (formally the Maui Prince Hotel) is a superior hotel on the perfect ¼ mile of white sand crescent beach at the foot of Mount Haleakala, where the sun rises over the dormant mountain volcano, and sets gracefully behind the offshore island of 'Molokini'.
The entire Makena Beach & Golf Resort is built around an Asian meditation garden with stone paths, waterfalls, quiet corners for contemplation and streams swimming with brilliant multi-colored carp. This creates a spectacular open-air atrium that leads to every room, while every window and private lanai in the rooms look out to the Pacific Ocean.
The resort has a choice of 310 guest rooms, including 19 suites. The Resort's beachfront location at the foot of Mount Haleakala affords all rooms views of the blue Pacific and the beauty of Makena's natural landscape. While all rooms are air conditioned, they also have a unique feature: a louvered door and screened lanai doors to allow fresh ocean breezes through your guest room, if you wish. Each room also has a private lanai, new beds, linens and décor, with a warm palette and floral motifs inspired by Hawaiian nature, two bath robes and two pairs of indoor slippers and nightly turn down service.
The area has many excellent beaches and the hotel features 6 tennis courts, many watersports, croquet lawn, horseriding, fitness centre, children's club and games room, swimming pool with poolside bar and jacuzzi plus many other activities, to join in with. Alternatively, you can relax in the Spa and just be pampered.
The Makena Golf Course offers 18 holes set in stunning natural surroundings, with natural rock formations, gullies and stream beds left in their origanal state; as much a nature walk as a golf course!
Dining choices are enticing and varied, with the freshest seafood and local produce inspiring the menus with Hawaiian flavor. The Molokini Bar & Grille offers a casual dining experience with panoramic ocean views and brilliant sunsets. Zen-Zen Restaurant Pacifica has a selection of delicious Pacific Rim fusion cuisine and delectable selections from the Sushi Bar, served in a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere. The Makena Clubhouse offers fabulous views of an endless emerald fairway stretching to the Pacific, and guests enjoy this picturesque setting for a tasty lunch, late afternoon pupu (appetizers) and their favorite beverages. Located at the Makena Golf Course, the clubhouse and terrace are favorite spots for relaxing at sunset, seasonal whale watching, and the popular Sunday Brunch. For a more relaxed, lighter eating experience, the Cappuccino Corner and the Poolside Snack Bar serves up the essentials for a great start to your day, light lunches, great Kids Meals and fantastic frozen cocktails. There is also a weekly Luau, with an all-you-can-eat buffet and traditional entertainment.

Currently, there are no non-stop flights from the UK to the Hawaiian Islands, mainly due to the distance from the UK. The most convenient way of getting there is via a connection at an American or Canadian city, and the following is a list of the Airlines that offer through service to the islands and the routes they operate.
Air Canada: Offer daily connecting flights to Honolulu from Heathrow via Toronto or Vancouver
United Airlines: Offer through services with same day connections from Heathrow via Los Angeles and San Francisco to Honolulu (Oahu), Maui, Kauai and Kona (Hawaii Big island). They also offer non-stop flights from Chicago and Denver to Honolulu
American Airlines: Offer through services with same day connections from Heathrow via Los Angeles to Maui, Kauai and Kona (Hawaii Big island). They also offer non-stop flights from Dallas to Honolulu and Maui
Alaska Airlines: Offer flights from Seattle and Portland to Honolulu, Maui, Hawaii Big Island and Kauai, which can be used in conjunction with other airlines from the UK
Continental: Offer through services with same day connections from Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester via Newark, New York, to Honolulu. They also have non-stop flights from Houston to Honolulu
Delta Airlines: Currently, no Delta flights from the UK make a same day connection to their Hawaiian flights, so an overnight stay will be required. They offer non-stop flights to Honolulu (Oahu) from Atlanta, Los Angeles, Detroit and Salt Lake City, and to Maui from Los Angeles and Salt Lake City
US Airways: Currently, no US Airways flights from the UK make a same day connection to their flights to the Hawaiian islands, so an overnight stay will be required. They operate non-stop flights from Phoenix to Maui , Honolulu, (Oahu), Kauai and Hawaii Big Island
.
Hawaiian Airlines: They
provide a large range of flights from cities in the American West
to Honolulu and Maui. Their flights from Los Angeles,
San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Las Vegas, San
Diego, Seattle, Portland and Phoenix can be used in
connection with other carriers flights from the UK. They
also provide a weekly service between Honolulu and Tahiti,
currently operating on a Saturday/Sunday schedule.
Korean Air: Offer a
very competitive price for flights to Honolulu from Heathrow via
Seoul in South Korea, but it is the long way around.
Domestic Flights around the
Islands
There are currently four domestic airlines operating in Hawaii; Aloha Air, Hawaiian Airlines, Go and Kahalau. They operate an extensive domestic flight network covering all the islands, with frequent and regular departures operating between 6am and 9 pm
There are a number of aircraft and helicopters available for
private charters throughout Hawaii, so arranging charters
between the main and/or outer islands is very easy. At this
time, there are no seaplanes available for chartering in the
Hawaiian chain, which is a little disappointing for flying boat
fans!
