Volcano House

Currently, the National Parks Service has decided to temporarily close Volcano House for major renovation work for the rest of 2011.  The work is to upgrade the property for fire and seismic events and started in January 2010.  The property is expected to be complete and re-opened by early 2012.

As far as we know, the renovations are not going to change the Resort layout dramatically, or change the number of rooms or room types available, but if any information to this effect comes to light, we will change the text to show this.  Otherwise, we believe the information below will be reasonably accurate when the property re-opens early 2012.

Updated 24 March 2011

The Volcano House Hotel is located in the Volcanoes National Park, just inside the park's main gate, some 4000 feet above the Pacific Ocean.  Because of the altitude, air conditioning is not required, as it is much cooler, but they do provide space heaters and conforters (quilts), in case it gets a little too cool.  It is positioned with amazing views of the Kilauea Caldera and its active, steaming, fiery Halema'uma'u Crater.

The Hotel is of a cosy, rustic, country inn style offering 42 rooms in three categories; garden view, crater view and deluxe crater view.  There are also 10 detached log cabins a short distance from the main building, offering all the facilities of the Hotel, but with more private accommodation.

The Hotel has a snack bar, restaurant and lounge bar to keep guests and visitors well fed and watered. The Ka Ohelo Dining Room, which offers breakfast and lunch buffets, and dinner menu daily, has a wall of huge picture windows which look out over the Crater and surrounding Volcano Park.  The Snack bar offers fresh sandwiches, salads and other 'quick-stop' items to grab and go.  Uncle George's Lounge is an intimate lounge bar, to enjoy Mai Tai, smoothies and cocktails with an amazing Volcano view.

The hotel is ideal for those clients wanting to explore the Volcano National Park, and would be suitable for a 2 or 3 night stay, for that purpose.  We would recommend combining Volcano House with another town or beach resort Hotel, to get the real feel of Hawaii, and complete your Hawaiian experience.
