Honolulu

A settlement since the 11th century, Honolulu has been the capital city of the State of Hawaii since 1845. The name means 'sheltered bay', and it was this bay that made it so popular in the 1800's, becoming the Pacific crossroads for merchant ships traveling between Asia and the Americas, and enabling the town to grow very quickly.

Today, the city has a resident population of nearly 400,000 and is home to the main international airport, which sees nearly 8 million visitors pass through it every year.  It is a popular holiday destination, with the famous Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head volcano, and consequently the are many hundreds of hotels, bars, restaurants and shopping areas for the visitors and locals alike to enjoy.

Honolulu is a vibrant, cosmopolitan city, offering dining and shopping venues to suit every taste and budget, from a hot dog from a street vendor cart, to the finest gourmet cuisine, and the tacky, kitsch souvenir stalls to modern, glass shopping malls full of interesting independants and high class designer stores. There are also numerous museums, gallerys, historic landmarks and sporting venues, as well as other tourist attractions, such as the Honolulu Zoo, USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbour, Iolani Palace and the Waikiki Aquarium, to name just a few.

Most of the more popular Waikiki hotels are located on a strip of land between the beach and the man-made Ala Wai canal, and on or between the 2 main parallel roads of beachside Kalakaua Avenue and canal-side Ala Wai Boulevard.  Inbetween the two is the smaller Kuhio Avenue and crossing all of them are a number of smaller streets. Most of the main shops, shopping malls, bars and restaurants are found along these roads, and wherever you stay in this area, everything is within easy walking distance.

Listed below are just a very small selection of hotels available in Honolulu and the Waikiki Beach area, and in our opinion, offer a cross section, of budget value, great location hotels, right up to deluxe, superior properties offering every luxury.  However, we can book any property on Oahu, so if your preferred property is not listed here, or you might want other options, just give our team a call and we can reserve the hotel of your choice.
