Ho'oilo House Boutique B and B

The Ho'oilo House Bed and Breakfast is a luxury B & B with just 6 individual and opulent rooms, located just a few minutes from Lahaina town and the main route 30, Honoapillani Highway.  It is set in a quiet, residential area surrounded by farm land, and due to its raised position on the slopes of the mountain, the Ho'oilo House offers stunning views of the ocean at the back of the property, and the West Maui Mountains to the front.

Just across the farm land, less than a mile away, there is the coast road, and the Launiupoko Beach Park, with yellow sand beach, man-made breakwall enclosing a shallow kiddy pool, a large grass picnic area and shower and toilet facilities, ideal for spending a few hours or a whole day enjoying the beach. Behind the property rises the steep slopes of the west Maui Mountains and the West Maui Forest Reserve, creating a stunning backdrop on the other side, and providing some great walks and hikes.

The award-winning property has just 6 bedrooms, each individually decorated, and with a tropical or far eastern style.  Each room offers 1 King or Queen bed, some being 4-poster, luxury ensuite bathroom with individual bath tubs, outdoor courtyard showers with carved stone shower heads, hairdryer and complimentary toiletries, air conditioning and ceiling fan, TV with DVD player, high-speed internet connection, iPod and iPad docking station, fridge with complimentary bottled water, iron and ironing board and private, furnished terrace with lovely garden or even, partial ocean views.

The Akala Manu (means Pink Bird) room has a Balinese style with small pink flamingo touches, with a king-sized wood bed, a spacious ensuite bathroom with Bali cabinet vanity, smooth pebble-style floor, hammered copper bath and sink, rock wall outdoor shower and partial ocean views from your private terrace.

The Honu (means Turtle) Room has stunning, custom-made carved wood 4-poster bed, luxury ensuite bathroom with Blue Pearl granite floor with custom-made Blue Pearl granite bathtub, featuring a carved stone head water spout and sliding door to your lava rock outdoor shower with carved stone shower head.  For each night you stay in this room, the owners will make a donation to the Pacific Whale Foundation Maui on your behalf.

The Kipuka Room (means Oasis), this is one of the largest rooms with a custom Golden wood King bed, luxury ensuite bathroom with Crem marble floor, custom Crem marble sunken bath tub with marble water spout, sliding door to a private courtyard Ivorystone shower with carved stone shower head, and a private patio with lovely views of the gardens.

The Kohola Room (means Whale) has a Chinese style 4-poster bed, luxury ensuite bathroom with carved sandstone tile, sandstone floor, vanity and sink, bamboo furnishing, carved sandstone tub with bamboo water spout, and sliding door to your outdoor shower with rough-hewn sandstone walls and bamboo shower head.  The private patio looks out to the ocean with stunning views across to the island of Lanai, and if you're lucky you might just spot whales out in the channel, at the right time of year!  For each night you stay in this room, the owners will make a donation to the Pacific Whale Foundation Maui on your behalf.

The Nalu Room (means wave) is a mirror image of the Kohola Room, except the bathroom is cream marble and bamboo.

The Wailele Room (means waterfall) is one of the largest rooms, with a Queen size Chinese 'Chow' bed, with the most beautiful antique carved door panels as your headboard. The ensuite bathroom has a Bali terracotta natural rock floor, a black cast iron, claw-foot tub, a coral Terrazzo vanity with carved sink, and a lava rock walled outdoor shower with carved stone shower head.

All the rooms also offer an armchair, air conditioning, ceiling fan, flat screen TV, iPod/iPad docking station (request), in-room safe, fridge with complimentary bottled water, telephone and complimentary Wi-Fi access.

As this is a B&B, it does not have the infrastructure of a big hotel, but what you do get is very personal service, and a good selection of amenities.

The great room offers comfy sofas and chair, and large patio doors opening onto the terrace, pool and gardens.  Complimentary Wi-Fi is available throughout the property, and complimentary bottled water is on hand all day.  A very comprehensive breakfast buffet is served every morning in the guest great room and offers freshly baked breads and muffins, cereals, fresh fruit, farm-fresh boiled eggs, juices, tea and coffee, with much of it locally sourced, or even grown in their own orchard!  You can enjoy your breakfast in the dining room, out on the patio by the pool, or take it back to your room to enjoy on your private patio.

The gardens overlook the ocean just 1 mile away, and have a spacious, furnished patio with an outdoor pool with 3 urn fountains, and a meditation gazebo, for a little quiet shade.  In-room Spa treatments are available to book if you so wish, or you could take a hike into the hills behind the property, and see the lush, tropical forest and beautiful waterfalls not far away.

The town of Lahaina is less than 2 miles away, with all the restaurants, bar and shops there, and the owners are more than happy to recommend some of the best eateries in the area for you to try.  Being so close to Lahaina and the Kaanapali area, there are many activites just a short drive away for you to enjoy, including bike hire, golf, snorkelling, diving, heli-tours and, of course, the beach just 1 mile away, which you could even walk to.

The Ho'oilo House is not the type of property we would normally feature, but the quality, individuality and luxury of this property puts it above what most people would call a B&B!  The property has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence by Tripadvisor 2013 and listed as 'Fodor's Choice' in both their Maui 2013 and Hawaii 2013 guide books, the highest honor this prominent travel publisher can bestow!  A stay at Ho'oilo House is definitely a stay out of the ordinary!
