The Kauai Marriott is situated one
and a half miles from Lihue and its airport, right on the ivory
sands of Kalapaki Beach, which faces out over Nawiliwili Bay.
The hotel has recently gone through
a $50m refurbishment of all rooms & suites, the restaurants,
pool area and public areas. The final renovations were
completed in December 2009.
There are 356 rooms and suites, all
with floor to ceiling opening windows, that open onto private
lanais with lovely views. They have all been completely
refurbished, with a modern, contemporary feel, with soft cream,
dark wood and burnt orange touches. They offer 5 catagories
of Guest Rooms, Garden View, Pool View, Partial Ocean View, Ocean
View, and Deluxe Ocean View, and a corner Oceanfront 1-Bedroom
Suite, with separate bedroom, living and dining areas, a large
ensuite bathroom with separate bath and shower and a private patio
accessed from the bedroom or the living areas.
The guest rooms offer 1 King or 2
Double beds with pillowtop mattresses and luxury linens, ensuite
marble bathrooms with bath/shower and complimentary toiletries,
hairdryer, mini-fridge, tea and coffee making facilities,
telephone, wired and Wi-Fi internet access (fee), flat screen
TV with cable/satelite channels and pay-per-view movies, in-room
safe, iron and ironing board, alarm clock/radio, air conditioning
and sliding doors opening to a private balcony or patio. The
1-bedroom Suites offer similar amenities but with the extra space,
and upgraded facilities.
Guests can indulge in the fare of
the Kauai Marriott's 4 restaurants, ranging from casual
poolside dining at the Kalapaki Grill, or Asian/Pacific cuisine at
Kukui's on Kalapaki Beach, to the freshest seafood at the
brand new Toro-Tei Sushi Bar, fine Italian cuisine at the
beachfront Cafe Portofino, and a popular Hawaiian-American menu at
Duke's Canoe Club. The popular Aupaka Terrace has been
transformed into a comfortable and relaxing lounge with full
bar offering flamboyant cocktails, as well as more normal looking
drinks, and in the mornings, you can get freshly brewed coffee and
hot-from-the-oven pastries and breakfast favourites. For a touch of
luxury, private gazebo and Seaside cabana dining can be
arranged, a unique dining experience with a 4-course meal prepared
by Chef, with private butler service, champagne and fresh
flower leis.
The pool area has also been
refurbished, with updated Pool Deck and Pool furniture. If
you are travelling with children, their dedicated Kids Club has
been totally revamped, and enhanced with all the electronic toys
that kids enjoy at home. There is also a modern fitness
centre and a Spa and beauty Salon to enjoy at your leisure.
Kayaks can be hired on the beach, as well as tennis courts
and a jogging trail available on site. Golf, horseback
riding, snorkelling, diving and water skiing are just some of the
activities available nearby. Within walking distance of the
Kauai Marriott Resort and Beach Club is the 800 acre Kauai lagoons,
home of the spectacular 18 hole championship golf courses (designed
by Jack Nicklaus), and award winning tennis facilities.
The Kauai Marriott is in a great
location, quite close to the local towns, shops and restaurants,
overlooking the sheltered Nawiliwili Bay and offers good facilities
at a reasonable price. If you want to stay on Kauai's
south-east coast, this property would be a great choice.

Currently, there are no non-stop
flights from the UK to the Hawaiian Islands, mainly due to the
distance from the UK. The most convenient way of getting there is
via a connection at an American or Canadian city, and the following
is a list of the Airlines that offer through service to the islands
and the routes they operate.
Air
Canada: Offer daily connecting flights to
Honolulu from Heathrow via Toronto or Vancouver
United
Airlines: Offer through services with same
day connections from Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and
Heathrow via Newark, Washington, Los Angeles and San Francisco to
Honolulu (Oahu), Maui, Kauai and Kona (Hawaii Big island). They
also offer non-stop flights from Chicago and Denver to Honolulu
American
Airlines: Offer through services with same
day connections from Heathrow via Los Angeles to Maui, Kauai and
Kona (Hawaii Big island). They also offer non-stop flights from
Dallas to Honolulu and Maui
Alaska
Airlines: Offer flights from Anchorage,
Seattle and Portland to Honolulu, Maui, Hawaii Big Island and
Kauai, which can be used in conjunction with other airlines from
the UK
Delta
Airlines: Currently, no Delta flights
from the UK make a same day connection to their Hawaiian
flights, so an overnight stay will be required. However, they can
offer a same day connection by using Virgin Atlantic's flight from
Heathrow to LA, They offer non-stop flights to Honolulu
(Oahu) from Atlanta, Los Angeles, Detroit and Salt Lake City,
and to Maui from Los Angeles and Salt Lake City
Hawaiian
Airlines: They provide a large range of
flights from cities in the American West to Honolulu and Maui.
Their flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose,
Las Vegas, San Diego, Seattle, Portland and Phoenix can be used in
connection with other carriers flights from the UK. They also
provide a weekly service between Honolulu and Tahiti, currently
operating on a Saturday/Sunday schedule.
Korean
Air: Offer a very competitive price for
flights to Honolulu from Heathrow via Seoul in South Korea, but it
is the long way around.
Domestic Flights around the
Islands
There are currently two major
domestic airlines operating in Hawaii; Island Air, and Hawaiian Airlines. They operate an extensive domestic
flight network covering all the islands, with frequent and regular
departures operating between 6am and 9 pm
There are a number of aircraft and helicopters available for
private charters throughout Hawaii, so arranging charters between
the main and/or outer islands is very easy. At this time, there are
no seaplanes available for chartering in the Hawaiian chain, which
is a little disappointing for flying boat fans!
