Located on the Big Island's sun-blessed leeward shore, just a short 20 minute drive from Kona Airport, this 521 room five star resort hotel offers its guests a truly away from it all experience.
Built on a dramatic lava flow outcrop that was once a popular haunt of the Hawaiian Royal Family, the hotel provides a truly spectacular setting. Located within the 1850 acre Keauhou Bay Resort area, The Sheraton Kona Bay is just east of Kailua-Kona, and close to the historic town of Kailua Village, with its shops, bars and restaurants.
After purchasing an existing property in 2002, Sheraton spent millions of dollars expanding, rebuilding, refurbishing, redecorating and refurnishing this fantastic property, to a high standard throughout, and finally had their Grand Opening in April 2005.
The Sheraton Kona Resort has 521 room and suites all offering varying degrees of ocean views, or mountain views. They are decorated in calming creams, blues and natural light wood furniture and are well appointed with spacious ensuite bathroom, air-conditioning, TV, coffee/tea making facilities, mini-fridge, direct dial telephones, high speed Wi-Fi (daily fee). in-room safe, hairdryer, iron & ironing board, and large private furnished lanai. The Suites offer an extra luxurious experience and have a separate bedroom and living room with lounge and dining furniture, spacious ensuite luxury bathrooms and a large furnished lanai. There are 3 Executive Suites, 6 Deluxe Executive Suites and 1 Presidential Suite, and all with Ocean Front views.
Some rooms have views of the pool areas, as well as the Ocean or Partial Ocean Views, and some of the Ocean Front rooms overlook the area where, every evening, manta rays come to feed on plankton that is drawn to the surface by specially placed lights.
There are a number of dining options at the Sheraton Kona Resort, including Kai, with bountiful breakfast and dinner buffets as well as an a la carte menu and Manta Ray Bar & Grill, for poolside light lunches and dinners, sandwiches, salads and snacks, and thrist-quenching smoothies and cocktails. The Keauhou Bay Coffee Co. offers fresh Kona coffee all day, pastries, fruits & cereals for breakfast, sandwiches and panini for lunch and salads, pastas and pizza in the evening. The Crystal Blue Lounge is an elegant, comfortable lounge and offers an island inspired menu of fresh fish dishes and salads with stunning ocean and sunset views. The viewing balcony has a close up view of the manta rays that come up to feed just off shore. Every Monday, there is also the Firenesia Luau Show, with a tasty buffet dinner, followed by the rythym and dancing of the Luau show. When you fancy a change to this dining selection, the restaurants and bars of the nearby Keauhou Shopping Centre and Kailua Village are there to tempt you.
Although there is no beach at this Resort, there are many other activities available, including a 14,000sqft sandbottom and multi-level fantasy pool with plentiful loungers, cabanas, lava tube slides, bubbling jacuzzis, waterfall and a lazy river that connects the different sections of the pool. There is also a well equipped fitness centre, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, and a children's water play area, as well as a supervised children's club. There are two championship golf courses attached to the resort, and while your partner is walking the fairways, you can relax in the open air Keauhou Spa and reduce your own handicap!
The Sheraton Kona Resort has the only Resort Wedding Chapel, set right on the Bayside, with lovely gardens and a Wedding Gazebo, this is a beautiful place to be married. There are several different outdoor locations for weddings and receptions, and the Resort has large and small banqueting rooms for indoor receptions. Currently, there are no non-stop flights from the UK to the Hawaiian Islands, mainly due to the distance from the UK. The most convenient way of getting there is via a connection at an American or Canadian city, and the following is a list of the Airlines that offer through service to the islands and the routes they operate.
Air Canada: Offer daily connecting flights to Honolulu from Heathrow via Toronto or Vancouver
United Airlines: Offer through services with same day connections from Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Heathrow via Newark, Washington, Los Angeles and San Francisco to Honolulu (Oahu), Maui, Kauai and Kona (Hawaii Big island). They also offer non-stop flights from Chicago and Denver to Honolulu
American Airlines: Offer through services with same day connections from Heathrow via Los Angeles to Maui, Kauai and Kona (Hawaii Big island). They also offer non-stop flights from Dallas to Honolulu and Maui
Alaska Airlines: Offer daily flights from Anchorage, Seattle and Portland to Honolulu, Maui, Hawaii Big Island and Kauai, which can be used in conjunction with other airlines from the UK
Delta Airlines: Currently, no Delta flights from the UK make a same day connection to their Hawaiian flights, so an overnight stay will be required. However, they can offer a same day connection by using Virgin Atlantic's flight from Heathrow to LA, They offer non-stop flights to Honolulu (Oahu) from Atlanta, Los Angeles, Detroit and Salt Lake City, and to Maui from Los Angeles and Salt Lake City
Hawaiian Airlines: They provide a large range of flights from cities in the American West to Honolulu and Maui. Their flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Las Vegas, San Diego, Seattle, Portland and Phoenix can be used in connection with other carriers flights from the UK. They also provide a weekly service between Honolulu and Tahiti, currently operating on a Saturday/Sunday schedule.
Korean Air:
Offer a very competitive price for flights to Honolulu from
Heathrow via Seoul in South Korea, but it is the long way
around.
Domestic Flights around the
Islands
There are currently two major domestic airlines operating in Hawaii; Island Air, and Hawaiian Airlines They operate an extensive domestic flight network covering all the islands, with frequent and regular departures operating between 6am and 9 pm
There are a number of aircraft and helicopters available for
private charters throughout Hawaii, so arranging charters between
the main and/or outer islands is very easy. At this time, there are
no seaplanes available for chartering in the Hawaiian chain, which
is a little disappointing for flying boat fans!
Airline Seat Maps
For most airlines, we can pre-reserve seats for you once your flight booking is confirmed, and if no charge is applied, will do so as a matter of course. If there is a charge by the airline for this, we will only do this with your approval. If you would like to have a look as a seat plan for your aircraft, check the airlines' own website, or one of the best independent websites for this is Seat Guru, which is part of the Tripadvisor group.
