This prestigious 4 Diamond hotel is situated in the three miles of sunny Mauna Lani Bay beach along the Kohala coast and offers 3,200 acres of tropical landscaped gardens and ancient traditional Hawaiian fishponds.

 

The fishponds around the Resort were a Hawaiian tradition, being made with barricaded entrances to allow small fish in from the seaward side, but once they grew in size, were too big to return to the open ocean, making it easy for Hawaiian fisherman to catch something for dinner without having to take to the Ocean.

 

The Mauna Lani Bay offers Guest Rooms in 7 view categories, Suites and 5 stunning, secluded detached bungalows, all recently updated (2014), and offering spacious accommodation and contemporary Hawaiian-style decor in light neutrals, warm browns and natural dark wood.

 

The Standard Guest rooms are well appointed and elegantly furnished and offer 1 King or 2 Queen beds, en-suite facilities, with hairdryers, bathrobes double marble vanities, make-up mirror and complimentary toiletries, air conditioning, a fridge, tea & coffee facilities, 47" LED TV with in-room movies, work desk and chair, 2 IDD telephones, alarm clock/radio, complimentary Internet and WiFi access, electronic in-room safe, twice daily maid service, sitting area with sofa and coffee table and sliding patio doors to a spacious private lanai (balcony) overlooking the mountains behind the property. The Garden View, Ocean View, Deluxe Ocean View, Ocean Front, Deluxe Ocean Front and Corner Ocean Front rooms all offer similar amenities as the Standard Guest Rooms but have differing views from their lanai or patio (ground floor rooms) depending on their location, with the Deluxe rooms being on the highest floors.

 

The stunning 1-bedroom Ocean View and Ocean Front Suites are located on the upper floors and offer all the facilities of the Standard Guest Rooms, but have a separate bedroom with ensuite facilities and a separate living room with wet bar, dining table and chairs and doors opening onto a large furnished private lanai with panoramic ocean views.  There are also 2 new and unique Suites, the Makaiwa Suite and the Pauoa Suite, offering spacious accommodation designed by Hawaiian designer Sig Zan. Located on the top floor with panoramic ocean views from the large, furnished lanai, they offer a divided bedroom with 1 King or 2 Queen beds, living room with sofa coffee table and flat screen TV, luxurious ensuite bathroom with double vanity, large soaking tub and walk-in rainfall shower.

 

Most impressive are the five spacious and beautifully appointed bungalows, set in the gardens and fishponds to the side of the main building, overlooking the greens of the golf course, out to the shoreline and ocean beyond. Access is via a private gated driveway, but theyare still within just a few minutes walk to the main amenities in the resort. Each bungalow has 4,000 sq ft of luxurious space, including 2 master bedroom suites each with master bath with whirlpool spa bath and shower/steam bath, full kitchen, spacious central living & dining areas, a large private lanai with garden area, private pool, stunning views and private beach access.  The bungalows include a stocked pantry on arrival, with non-alcoholic drinks, fruits and snacks, round trip SUV airport transfers, daily breakfast buffets for up to six guests and two 80-minute welcome massages.

 

The Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bunglows offers a selection of restaurants to choose from, sometimes with traditional live Hawaiian entertainment.  The open-air beachfront Canoe House features award-winning gourmet Hawaiian cuisine and island fresh sushi with magnificent ocean and sunset views from both the inside dining room and outdoor terrace.  Classic and contemporary American cuisine as well as plentiful Breakfast buffets can be enjoyed in the Bay Terrrace, situated by the meandering fishponds.  There is also burgers, sandwiches, salads & wraps, along with cool tropical beverages available at the poolside Ocean Bar & Grill, freshly ground coffee, light bites and appetizers at Mountain Thunder Coffee Lani coffee shop and freshly prepared Japanese fare at Shiono Japanese restaurant at the Golf Clubhouse.  There are also additional dining options at the nearby 'The Shops at Mauna Lani', an open air shopping mall with a selection of shops, boutiques and gourmet dining.

 

Tennis enthusiasts have a choice of 6 championship courts of varying speeds, at the Mauna Lani tennis Club nearby.  A professional is on hand to arrange tournaments or clinics if you wish.  The Francis H I'i Brown Golf Complex offers two 18 hole championship golf courses set by the ocean, as well as a dedicated keiki (kids) course for under 18's.

 

There is also a well-equipped, state-of-the-art fitness club with many complimentary and paid yoga & fitness classes, a lap pool, free bicycles to tour the Resort, complimentary Hawaiian weaving, Ukelele and flower lei making classes, historic and educational tours, a daily Children's Camp and many other water sports, including snorkelling, catamaran sailing, diving lessons and guided dives, stand up paddle boards & sunset cruises.  If you're lucky, between November and March, you may even spot some humpback whales, too.
