The Hotel Kia Ora Resort will be closed between Monday 10th February 2020 and Sunday 8th March 2020, while some building work is carried out. They will be renovating the main pool deck, and re-roofing the restaurant, Miki Miki Bar and the watersports and Dive Centre. The work will be completed in the 4 weeks and the resort will open for guests on Monday 9th March 2020.
The Hotel Kia Ora Resort & Spa is located on the northwest shoreline of the Rangiroa Atoll, on a pristine white sand beach, looking over the turquoise lagoon. Set amongst a large coconut plantation, whose mature trees have been saved and/or replanted, the Resort has a traditional, tropical atmosphere.
After a long and complete renovation, the Resort is now fully open, and offering a quiet, authentic Polynesian experience.
There are 28 Garden Villas, 24 Beachfront Bungalows, and 10 Overwater Bungalows, all of which have been completely rebuilt or totally gutted and refurbished, to a very high standard. They have concentrated on tradtional Polynesian style, crafts and building materials, and you will find woven bamboo, native timbers, thatched roofs, and seashell and coral decorations in each villa, alongside contemporary, world-class luxurious amenities.
The Garden Villas are divided into 3 catagories: Garden Villa, Junior Suite and Executive Suite. They are all located amongst the coconut trees and are enclosed in a walled courtyard with plunge pools, offering complete privacy.
The Garden Villas offer ensuite bathroom, with shower and open-air tub, large double bed, sitting area with small fridge, large sliding glass doors opening onto the outdoor sundeck, with padded lounge chairs and shady gazebo, and a dining table to enjoy dinner under the stars, if you wish. The Junior Suite is larger, with a separate double bedroom, and space in the lounge for a third double bed if required for large families or groups. The Executive Suite offer 2 separate bedroom wings, and a living room, arranged around the central patio and the pool, each with a separate bedroom, bathroom and sitting area. The lving room, at one end of the pool, is ideal for sharing dinner with family or friends, and the shady thatched gazebo at the other end, is the perfect place to relax with a drink or two.
The Beach Bungalow are also divided into 3 catagories: Standard Beach Bungalows, Beach Suites, and Deluxe Beach Bungalows. They are located along the treeline on the shore, overlooking the blue lagoon, with either a jacuzzi or private plunge pool.
The Standard Beach Bungalows offer a double bed facing the beautiful view, coral-decorated ensuite bathroom with double sinks, shower and separate toilet, living room with mini bar/fridge, tea and coffee making facilities, ceiling fan and sliding glass doors out onto the open decked terrace, with jacuzzi and padded sun loungers shaded by palm trees. The Deluxe Beach Bungalows offer sophisticated island style, with the main living/bedroom separate from the ensuite bathroom by frosted glass panels and hand-carved wood, adding traditional touches to the contemporary feel. The living room has a king-size bed looks out to the deck with the lagoon beyond, and a sitting area with sofa and desk. The bathroom opens out to a private garden courtyard with coral wall, tropical plants and an open-air tub, and the decked terrace overlooks the beach and your private jet-stream swimming pool. The Beach Suites are nestled amongst the coconut trees and are ideal for families or friends, as they have 2 separate bedrooms, spaced over 2 floors, as well as a enclosed courtyard garden, ensuite bathroom and comfortable living room opening onto the private deck with jacuzzi.
The Overwater Bungalows, spaced along a sweeping, decked walkway out into the lagoon, offer a spacious bedroom with king-size bed, a sitting room, with sofa and desk, and ensuite bathroom with double sinks, separate shower and sunken tub surrounded by glass floors to view the lagoon below. The private deck offers padded lounge chairs, a shaded dining area abd a water-level platform, ideal for swimimng and snorkelling.
The Resort has 2 restaurants and the Miki Miki Bar, offering dining choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. A breakfast buffet offers a multitude of sweet and savoury dishes and fresh fruit, whilst lunch has a a Polynesian inspired light menu. Evening dinner is local specialities, with mediterranean cuisine, and 2 nights a week, a traditional barbecue buffet and dance show can be enjoyed. The gourmet Te Poerava restaurant is brand new and was specially built during the Resort's renovation in 2011, when they created a beautiful overwater Fare, with 180° glass walls, to aprreciate the stunning view. Holding only 9 tables for 2. the exclusive restaurant showcase gourmet cuisine, blending Polynesian and Asian flavours, accompanied by a selection of fine wines.
Suspended over the water on stilts, the Miki Miki Bar is the perfect spot to enjoy a drink, either inside, or outside on the wide deck. Decorated in tradional style, with glass-topped carved stone bar and glass panelled floor, the bar offers views not only out the ocean, but down into the lagoon below.
During the Resort's rebuilding, they also improved and upgraded the Poekura Spa, which now offers luxurious surrounding to enjoy the many treatments on offer. There is also a Fitness centre in the the hotel gardens for the enthusiastic guests!
The Kia Ora Resort offers a range of activites, from excursions to deserted islands, exciting fishing trips and snorkelling and scuba diving, with instruction if required.
As this Resort was completely rebuilt in late 2010 and most of 2011, everything is still fresh and new, and they have taken the opportunity to improve and greatly upgrade the property and the accommodation, and have spent a great deal of money to make sure traditional materials, timbers and crafts have been used as much as possible, alongside 21st century luxury and technology, to provide a tropical paradise with modern day comforts.

Although there are frequent
international flights into Tahiti, there are limited airports of
embarkation to choose from, with currently only Paris, Los Angeles,
Auckland and Tokyo offering single plane air service to
Tahiti.
The international airline for French Polynesia. is Air Tahiti
Nui, who operate daily flights from Paris and Los
Angeles to Tahiti, and on some days there are additional fights
to/from Los Angeles. In addition, they operate two weekly flights
to/from Auckland and they serve Tokyo twice a week. Their services
to New York and Sydney have been suspended, at this
time.
Air France
currently offer a service from Paris, three times a week via Los
Angeles
Air New Zealand
operates daily flights via LA to Papeete, and 5 days a week from/to
Auckland with it's own aircraft. It also operates a codeshare
arrangements with Air Tahiti Nui providing seats on their fights
from Tahiti to Auckland and Los Angeles.
United Airlines operate 3 times a week from San Francisco to Papeete, on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday, which will connect to their daily flight from Heathrow.
Air Calin
operate a weekly flight between Noumea, in New Caledonia, and
Tahiti.
Hawaiian
Airlines provide a weekly service between Honolulu and
Tahiti, currently operating on a Saturday/Sunday schedule.
LANChile
operate a flight once a week from Santiago to Tahiti via
Easter Island, providing the availability to do a great side trip
from Tahiti to Easter island.
Air Tahiti is
French Polynesia's domestic airline, which operates an extensive
domestic flight network covering all the country's main islands,
with at least a daily service. With the main Society islands
receiving a number of flights a day, since Air Moorea stopped
operations between Tahiti and Moorea, the flight connections now to
Moorea have become limited, most connections between the two are
now done by ferry boat.
The less populated and outer islands have a restricted service, so
sometimes a night stop in Tahiti may be required when connecting to
these islands.
Air Tahiti
provide the only air service between Tahiti and the Cook islands,
which they currently do once a week on a Thursday, an extra high
season flight is operated between June and August
There are a number of aircraft and helicopters available for private charters, but they all tend to be based in Tahiti so arranging charters between the outer islands can be expensive as the aircraft will originate and terminate in Tahiti.
