Pension Fare Vaihere

The Fare Vaihere is a small, family-owned pension with just 4 individual fares (bungalows) overlooking the beautiful Opuhonu Bay.

The 4 Bungalows were updated in 2011 and 2013 and each has been individually decorated in bright, tropical colours, either red, yellow, blue or green.  They offer bedroom area with a queen bed plus a single day bed, both with mosquito nets, an ensuite bathroom with a stone wall walk-in shower, work desk and chair, a fan, mini fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and a private furnished verandah looking out to the gardens and the ocean beyond.  On arrival, you will find fresh tropical flowers in your room, leaving a wonderful fragrance to welcome you.

A tropical continental breakfast is served each morning, and offers a freshly baked baguette and croissant with local jams and preserves, fresh fruits, juice, and tea or coffee. Extras, such as scrambled eggs or omelete, can be requested for a small additional cost, approximately £2-£3 per item.  The owners, Corinne and Phillipe, can also offer a 3 course evening meal for approximately £35 per person, which could consist of fresh tuna or mahi-mahi with local vegetables, whilst dessert could be as delicious as a passion fruit pie, or homebaked coconut cake with ice cream or fresh fruits.  Each day would be something different, depending on what was available in the market that day.  The food is excellent, and has a definite French style to the cuisine.  If you don't want to eat here, there are many other hotels with restaurants to try, and the nearby local towns and villages have many stores, cafes and restaurants to choose from.

The Fare Vaihere doesn't have much of a beach, but there is a small area of course sand, big enough for a couple of loungers or a beach towel.  The water is shallow enough to walk in for swimming or snorkelling, with lots of fish in the shallows, but reef shoes are recommended due to the sharp coral.  There is a long jetty out into deeper water, to the edge of the coral reef, where you can swim, snorkel and scuba dive with a multitude of tropical fish, rays, turtles and even small sharks.  The property has Kayaks and bicycles that are free for guests to use, as well as a small library, board games, cards, badminton and boccee bowls.  They also offer a few cultural activities, such as learning about coconuts and making coconut milk, and making traditional items using woven leaves.

Phillipe is also a qualified dive instructor, who can teach you the basics of scuba diving, and have you out on the reef within a morning!  More experienced divers are also welcome, and Phillipe can take you to the best dive sites in the area, showing you the where the rays and the sharks hang out!  They also use the dive boat to offer lagoon tours and trips to other islands or towns or beaches around the coast, for a small fee towards the cost of fuel.  They will also recommend and/or book taxis, tours and excursions for you, and there are a number of things to do within a short bike ride or taxi journey away.

The Pension Fare Vaihere is a good value, very clean, friendly and personal property, in a good location close to the town, great views of Opuhonu Bay, and with great snorkelling opportunities right offshore.

Please note: this property will be closed to guests from 11th January 2016 to 15th February 2016.
