Turtle Island Resort

Turtle Island is located in the southern Yasawa Islands, just a short 30-minute seaplane flight north of Nadi. The island and magnificent lagoon were the filming location for both the 1949 and 1980 versions of "The Blue Lagoon" movies, and look as beautiful in reality as they did in the films.

Turtle Island is an ideal location of those clients who are looking for a 5 star resort experience in a location that will offer complete isolation from the outside world, as there are no phones in the rooms, no Wi-Fi and no televisions!

Where Turtle Island differs from all the other Fiji islands is in the philosophy and passion of the owner, American Richard Evanson, who purchased the island in 1972.  At that time, the island was uninhabited except for huge herds of goats that had been left to breed unchecked and had overrun the island, ravaging and destroying the natural vegetation.

Over the last 40 years, Richard has reforested and replanted the island with over 500,000 indigenous trees and plant life, including mahogany and palms, and imported ecologically compatible tropical trees and plants, to supplement the natural planting. The end result is an island that is one of the most attractive and interestingly varied tropical islands to be found anywhere in the world.  And to ensure the continuing environmental stablility of the island, the guest total is limited to only 28 people at any one time.

The resort is built on the western side of the island, along a 400-foot white sand beach. There are 14 Grand Bures, spread along the beach but positioned back a little in a tropical garden setting. They are built far enough apart to ensure total privacy.  Each spacious bure was built by local Fijian craftsmen, using local hardwoods from the island, reducing the amount of supplies that had to be shipped into the island  They have a king-size four-poster bed, ensuite bathroom with walk-in double showers, double vanity, jacuzzi tub, an additional outdoor shower and complimentary toiletries, a large dressing area, a light and airy sitting room with corner sofa, a wet bar stocked with your choice of drinks and tropical fruit, iPod/iPhone docking station, ceiling fans, work desk and chair and French doors opening to your private furnished verandah with double day bed and beautiful views.

There is also a unique premium bure, the secluded Vonu Point villa, set atop a small bluff, just a short walk down to the beach, with uninterrupted panoramic views of the lagoon and nearby islands, and luxurious, spacious accommodation.  Ideal for a honeymoon or romantic getaway, it has similar amenities as the Grand Bures, but also has a private garden overlooking the sea, meandering terraces and is the ultimate private, romantic hideaway.

Each bure also has its own personal 'Bure Mama' who looks after the guests in her bure like family, and will cater to your every whim.  She will become your personal guide, set up a picnic on a beach for you, leave you to enjoy your day, then return at the end to help you pack away, or accompany you on a snorkelling trip and offer her knowledge on the best spots and the marine life.  She will also have with her a digital camera, with which, with your permission, she will take pictures of you and your experiences, and at the end of your visit, she will present you with a photo album as a momento of your fabulous time at Turtle Island Resort.

The resort's chefs are at the peak of their culinary achievements so a truly wonderful dining experience can be guaranteed. There is a huge organic garden which provides much of the fruit and vegetables for the resort, and any excess is donated to the local villagers, so nothing would go to waste.  Breakfast is a selection of fresh fruit, cereals, freshly baked pastries and muffins, or something special, like a lobster omelet.  Lunch could be a buffet selection in resort, or maybe a lobster and champagne picnic on a private beach, the choice is yours.  Every night is a dinner party in the company of your fellow guests with sumptuous food, unlimited fine wines and champagnes and a different location to enjoy each night. However, if you prefer to dine alone there are some lovely private dining options - at the end of the jetty, in your bure, on a deserted beach, or even on a floating pontoon surrounded by lanterns, the choice is yours.

For the active, Turtle Island is an unspoilt, tropical playground where there are many watersports available, including kayaking, glass-bottom boat trips, sailing, fishing, snorkelling and guided scuba diving.  You can also enjoy horseback riding, or take a bike or hike some wonderful jungle trails.  The island has 14 beaches that can be reserved for daily private use to enjoy a champagne picnic or whatever you choose (limited only by your imagination!).  For a spot of relaxing, the Vonu Spa offers a range of body treatments, including a range of indulgent massages.

Turtle Island Resort is an ideal place for the most romantic of honeymoons, but is also a fantastic place to actually get married, too.  They relish the opportunity to arrange the most spectacular weddings, in traditional Fijian style, with warrior escorts, in a Fijian chapel decorated with tropical flowers, serenaded by the beautiful voices of the staff, followed by a traditional lovo, or wedding feast, including a cake baked especially for you by the chefs.  The staff members will even make the bride and groom traditional Fijian wedding outfits, if you so wish.  You can share your wedding day with friends and family, just yourselves and your witnesses or invite all the island guests, but you will never share your special day with any other bridal party, as they only allow 1 wedding per week.

For weddings or just for large groups or family parties, you can hire the whole island to yourself.  Then you really do have a private paradise all to yourself!

As all the meals, drinks and activities (except massage) are included so you can truly relax and enjoy the whole 'Turtle Island Experience'. The resort has been awarded many international awards for its ecological achievements and in 2013 finally installed its long awaited solar power station, big enough to provide virtually all of the island's power need, therefore stemming its reliance on diesel generators.   The Turtle Island family make everybody welcome and will go to any lengths to ensure your total comfort and satisfaction, to them you are one of the extended Turtle family.
