VATULELE ISLAND RESORT WAS BOUGHT BY NEW OWNERS IN 2015, WHO PLANNED TO COMPLETELY REFURBISH THE WHOLE RESORT. THE RESORT CLOSED BUT AS FAR AS WE CAN ASCERTAIN, NO WORK HAS BEEN DONE AND THERE IS NO INFORMATION ABOUT WHETHER OR NOT THIS PROPERTY WILL RE-OPEN AS A TRADING RESORT. IF WE FIND ANY FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT THIS RESORT, WE WILL UPDATE THIS PAGE TO ADVISE.
Vatulele Island Resort is the essence of a laidback 'barefoot chic' luxury resort, set on an island shaped like a footprint! Best of all, this personal resort welcomes a maximum of just 38 guests, looked after by warm and friendly staff. since 2012 the resort is under new ownership and has some updating and improvements.
On the west side of Vitu Levu, the largest of the Fijian islands, is Vatulele Island, home to this exclusive small Resort with just 19 thatched roof villas, or bure (pronounced boo-ray), tucked into lush jungle. Designed to fit in around the existing trees, the villas were designed in a Santa Fe-meets-Pacific style with colour-washed adobe-style walls with palm thatched roofs and natural wood furnishings.
Purchased by new owners in 2011, they spent many thousand of dollars and closed the resort for 2 months (March/April 2012), to refurbish and upgrade what was already an upmarket resort.
They have 5 grades of villa; Beach Villa, Deluxe Beach Villa and Deluxe with pool, plus the individual premium villas; The Point and Vale Viqi. All the villas havce easy access to the beach and are separated by at least 20 metres, so peace and privacy are assured.
The L-shaped Beach Villas and Deluxe Beach Villas are set back from the beach slightly, amongst the tropical palm trees, and offer separated bedroom with a raised 4-poster king-size bed with insect nets, dressing room area, luxury ensuite bathroom with twin sinks, complimentary toiletries, and separate wet-room shower, sitting room with bench sofa and table and chairs, air conditioning, mini-bar/fridge, wine cooler, flat screen TV with DVD player, i-Pod docking station, and several opening doors to your private, furnished terrace, with hammock and steps down to the beach.
The Deluxe Beach Villas with Pool are the same as the normal Deluxe Villas, with the addition of a private plunge pool right next to the terrace.
Vale Viqi, the most remote of the bures, is a 1960sqft honeymoon pink mini palace, with luxurious ensuite bathroom with free-standing double ended tub, double walk-in shower, king-sized platform bed, wet bar area with fridge and wine cooler, dining room, large lounge with air conditioning, ceiling fans, flat screen TV with DVD player, i-Pod docking station and 2 of the walls comprising of folding doors, which open completely, making the lounge almost and outdoor room. The doors lead onto the private walled terrace and pool, surrounded by lush tropical gardens, with steps leading to the beach and a separate beach shower.
The Point is an exceptional premium villa, overlooking the entire lagoon and the beach from its position atop a small rock bluff, but is still just a short walk down to the white sand beach. The Point is spread over 2 air conditioned floors, with a spacious master bedroom on the first floor, with a modern King-size bed, luxury ensuite bathroom with shower and large soaking tub, and several opening French doors to the upper shaded terrace. The ground floor comprises of a large open plan lounge and dining area, with wet bar area, a separate WC, and multiple opening French doors the the private, furnished terrace with pool. There are multuiple levels to the terrace, and down a small winding path you will find another walled, private sun terrace and another plunge pool. Because of the position, The Point is very secluded, and is much in demand with romantic honeymooners and high-profile guests who want their privacy. The private butler also adds to the presitge of The Point.
Vatulele island Resort is recognized for providing guests the opportunity to experience the best food and beverages in the region. The range of dining options include private dining in the wine cellar, in your own villa or on the terrace of the central pavilion overlooking the lagoon. The emphasis is on fresh local seafood and fresh ingredients grown in their own organic gardens, with an extensive menu of European, Asian and Pacific cuisine. There is a well-stocked wine cellar offering a selection of wines to complement the cuisine, as well as a bar. Picnics can be prepared for you to enjoy on some of the neighbouring deserted islands.
You can spend your days at Vatulele doing whatever you like, from swimming, diving and snorkelling the crystal clear lagoon, have a relaxing massage, visit the local villages, or just take a peaceful walk along the beaches or through the tropical forest, have a quick game of tennis, or take a boat into deeper water and fish or stop at one the deserted little islands nearby.
Vatulele Island is a stunning destination for scuba diving, and you can learn to dive here if you wish, or if already qualified, dive some of the most amazing corals gardens, walls and drop offs in the area.

Fiji has one of the best air service connections of any of the islands in the Pacific.
Fiji Airways ( was Air Pacific ), Fiji's national carrier, provides a daily service to Sydney and Auckland and up to six times a week to Los Angeles ( will be daily by Autumn 2013 ), and frequent flights to Brisbane and Melbourne. Air Pacific also provides regular services to the neighbouring island nations of Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, Kiribati and the Solomon Islands. Further afield it operates twice weekly flights to Hong Kong.
Korean Air operate three flights a week between Seoul and Nadi. On the southbound flights from Seoul a direct connection can be made off Korean Air's daily London-Seoul flight. However, on the return flight, a night stop will be required in Seoul, as the flight timings do not permit a same day connection.
Air New Zealand operates daily to/from Auckland with connections to its double-daily flights to London, either via Los Angeles or Hong Kong. Air New Zealand also operates a codeshare arrangement with Air Pacific providing seats on their non-stop Nadi-Los Angeles flights.
Virgin Australia operate a regular service from/to Sydney, with connections to many other Australian cities.
Air Calin operate twice a week between Noumea and Nadi.
Air Niugini operate a twice a week service from and to Port Moresby via Honiara to Nadi.
Pacific Sun, Fiji Airways's domestic airline subsidiary, operates an extensive domestic flight network covering all the countries main islands, with at least a daily service. The main northern islands receive at least two flights a day and some times more, the less populated islands get a restricted service, so sometimes a night stop in Nadi or Suva may be required when connecting between some of the less popular islands.
A number of the outer Island Resorts operate their own dedicated daily flights, to transfer their clients from Nadi to the resort and back, using either fixed wing commuter aircraft, seaplanes or helicopters. Further details of these will be given at the time we provide our quotation.
