Tropical Cyclone Winston - The Koro Sun Resort has sustained some structural damage, mainly to the new villas around the marina, due to their location on the waterfront with the high winds and high swells. The Resort has said, 'The Floating Bures broke off their moorings, and took a scenic trip down the coast, where they landed right side up in various locations along the coast. One Floating Bure even managed to secure itself a prime location on a private island with a sandy beach! The Floating Bures were amazingly resilient, with just the artwork hanging crooked inside and some minor damage to the front porches. We are working to recover all 8 Floating Bures at this time.'
The Resort is planning to re-open from 15th March onwards, with a reduced inventory, as all the Edgewater villas and Floating Bures will not be back in service until 1st June and the Edgewater Bures, from 1st August 2016.
Located on the southern coast of Vanua Levu a short 15 minutes drive from the main town of SavuSavu, in one of Fiji's most unspoilt locations, the Koro Sun offers a truly luxurious setting. Set between the lush, tropical rainforest and the sea, the Resort is spread over 160 acres, from the hillside above the main resort, through tropical landscaped gardens, down to a private beachfront just the other side of the coast road. As they say, from rainforest to reef!
The Koro Sun Resort have spent a lot of time and money over the last few years, on updating the existing accommodation (though still some to do) and building brand new luxury villas and bures, and a brand new beachside pool and pool bar, area, called the Edgwater Beach Club.
At present, the Resort has 43, 1- and 2-bedroomed Bures (bungalows) and luxury Villas, some beachside and some spread up the hillside above the beach, amongst the tropical gardens and lush rainforest.
The 1-bedroom Ocean View Garden Bures are located on the hillside just above the beach, on the land side of the road, overlooking the gardens and the sea. They offer a king-size canopy bed with mosquito nets, ensuite bathroom with outdoor courtyard shower and complimentary toiletries, sitting area with armchairs and coffee table, fridge and mini-bar, tea and coffee making facilities, iron and ironing board, in-room safe, air conditioning, ceiling fan, and doors opening to a private furnished patio. The 2-bedroom Garden Ocean View Bure offers similar amenities, but with a larger sitting room with sofa, chairs table and single day/sofa bed, 2 separate bedrooms with King beds, 1 bathroom with indoor and outdoor courtyard showers and screened balcony overlooking the gardens.
The 2-bed Raintree Bures are similar to the Garden Bures, but are further up the hillside from the beach, and additionally have a kitchenette with full-size fridge/freezer, microwave, 2-ring stove, and breakfast bar, a private plunge pool and shaded furnished porch overlooking the golf course and pond.
There are a number of detached 1- and 2-bedroomed villas located around the resort, including 2 Honeymoon Villas, the Treetop and the Lighthouse Villas.
The Treetop Villa is in the center of the resort, overlooking the gardens, pool and clubhouse. There are a quite few steps up to your villa but you are then up in the treetops surrounded by nature. The Villa is a round 2-storey villa, with a custom built bedroom and ensuite bathroom with spa tub and separate shower on the top floor, a spacious sitting room and a round circular deck with private plunge pool on the ground floor.
The Lighthouse Villa is, again, a round, 2-storey thatched villa, but this one is on a promontory right on the oceanfront. The bedroom and bathroom is on the first floor with a Queen bed and lava rock shower, with a small kitchen and lounge area on the ground floor with French doors opening to a spacious terrace with a shaded round pool, table and chairs, and 2 couples 'cuddle' chairs, all overlooking the sea.
The 2-bed Pool Villas are located on the hilside above the main resort, in the peaceful trees and gardens but with views of the sea. They offer 2 separate bedrooms with a Queen bed and 2 twin beds, both with French doors to a private balcony, and a sitting area between them with a small kitchenette/wet bar area and French doors opening to a private courtyard garden with private pool and hot tub.
The two 3-bedroom Streamside Family Villas are located a short walk from the beach overlooking the beautiful lily ponds and green lawns with views of the ocean through the palm trees. They offer a master suite with king size bed, private balcony, and a master bath with twin vanities, shower and soaking tub on the first floor, and 2 bedrooms with queen beds sharing a large bathroom with shower, double vanities and outdoor courtyard shower on the ground floor. There is also a spacious lounge and dining area along with a full kitchen and a glass-screened sun room.
There are also 3 further private Rainforest Villas, further up the hillside, surrounded by green lawns and tropical rainforest trees, overlooking the Koro Sea and the resort below. This area offers two, 2-bedroom, or one 5-bedroom villas with designer kitchens, infinity edge pools and spacious outdoor terraces. These villas are quite a walk from the main resort up the hillside.
However, the cream of the accommodation crop has to be the new Edgewater Bures and Edgewater Villas. Located right on the water front, on two sides of a sand spit that surrounds the little marina, the 10 new Edgewater Bures offer bright, modern interiors, great location on the beachfront, all the amenities of the standard bures and a spacious, furnished private deck with lovely sea views. They offer a King bed, spacious ensuite bathroom with rainfall shower, double vanities and complimentary toiletries, a sitting area with double French doors opening onto a private furnished terrace overlooking the lagoon with ladder access into the warm water below.
The 5 Edgewater Villas are on the third side of the square marina, on the ocean-side of the promontory out from the beach. They offer a master suite with lounge are on the first floor, with a a king bed and doors opening to a private balcony overlooking the beach and the sea. On the ground floor there is a full kitchen and dining area, bathroom with separate tub and shower, media room with flat-screen TV and DVD player with leather double sofa-bed, and a spacious lounge with French doors opening to a ladder platform allowing you access to the waters of the Koro Bay. Outside your villa, on the land side, there is a private garden and sun terrace, as well as a private pool, with a bridge over to enter the front door.
The latest addition to the Edgewater Lagoon area are the 8 brand new floating bures, on the inside of the sand spit, behind the Edgewater Bures. These unique floating pontoons have a 1 bedroom bure looking into the the beach and the marina lagoon and offer the same amenities as the standard Bures. The separate bedroom area has a king bed, the sitting area has a built-in L-shaped sofa with views out of the doors to your shaded deck with sun loungers and your personal 2-person kayak tied up outside. The only downside we can see to these new bures is their view; we feel the view could be disappointing for some people, as you will be overlooking the back of the Edgewater bures and gardens on one side, and the marina and the villas on the other, but this will, of course, be decided by personal preference.
Koro Sun Resort includes all meals during your stay, including tropical and fresh-cooked hot breakfast and a 3-course lunch and dinner, using organic fruit and veg from their own gardens, and many local meat and fish produce.
The main Matakau Restaurant is in the main clubhouse building in the centre of the resort, and 3 or 4 days a week, there is also the Seaside Restaurant, just for a change. This restaurant is located right on the shoreline, but being open air, it is dependant on weather!. The Levu Bar is within the Matakau Restuarant, and offers a fuill range of beers, wines and spirits, plus fresh tropical cocktails. The Seaside Bar is open every evening for drinks and cocktails, and is a great place to watch the sun go down or enjoy their happy hour. There is also the Wai Bar, a swim up bar at the new Edgewater Beach Club, on the shoreline, which also offers pool service as well. Drinks are not included in the Resorts' cost, but can be purchased for an additional charge, as normal, as can afternoon tea.
In the new Edgewater Beach Club area in the Resort, there is a lovely sandy beach giving easy access to the shallow water and offers great snorkelling opportunities. If you don't fancy swiming in the sea, there are 3 pools, a kids pool, the Matakau Clubhouse pool and the Edgewater infinity pool, each with sun terrace and loungers. There are tennis and volleyball courts on site, as well as their own 9 hole 'fun' golf course, who's holes meander in and around the resort. They offer a range of other complimentary activities to fill your days, such as guided snorkelling tours, guided kayak/snorkelling tours, guided rainforest and flora treks, mountain bikes, school and church visits and cultural activities, like flower arranging or cooking, plus many more. They can also book and arrange chargeable excursions, like guided snorkelling and kayaking trips further afield, pearl farm tour, dolphin watching, waterfall tour, on-site scuba diving and private, day and sunset cruises. The town of Savusavu is a short distance away and you can explore the shops and restaurants there, or browse the Saturday market stalls. Or take a bike or taxi and explore along the Hibiscus highway that goes (roughly) around the island.
And when you want to relax and be pampered, the Rainforest Spa offers a range of body and beauty treatments.
The genuine warmth and friendliness of the Fijian staff creates the perfect romantic location to relax and enjoy all that Fiji has to offer. Lush tropical surroundings with warm, crystal clear waters, along with fine Fijian dining, things could not be better, than at the Koro Sun Resort.

Fiji Airways ( was Air Pacific ), Fiji's national carrier, provides a daily service to Sydney, Auckland and Los Angeles, and frequent flights to Brisbane and Melbourne. San Francisco San Francisco. Further afield it operates 5 times a week to Hong Kong, twice a week to Tokyo and 3 times a week to Singapore They also provide regular services to the neighbouring island nations of Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Tuvulu and the Solomon Islands.
Korean Air operate three flights a week between Seoul and Nadi. On the southbound flights from Seoul a direct connection can be made off Korean Air's daily London-Seoul flight. However, on the return flight, a night stop will be required in Seoul, as the flight timings do not permit a same day connection.
Air New Zealand operates daily to/from Auckland with connections to its double-daily flights to London, either via Los Angeles or Hong Kong. Air New Zealand also operates a codeshare arrangement with Air Pacific providing seats on their non-stop Nadi-Los Angeles flights.
Virgin Australia operate a regular service from/to Sydney, with connections to many other Australian cities.
Air Calin operate twice a week between Noumea and Nadi.
Air Niugini operate a twice a week service from and to Port Moresby via Honiara to Nadi.
Pacific Sun, Fiji Airways's domestic airline subsidiary, operates an extensive domestic flight network covering all the countries main islands, with at least a daily service. The main northern islands receive at least two flights a day and some times more, the less populated islands get a restricted service, so sometimes a night stop in Nadi or Suva may be required when connecting between some of the less popular islands.
A number of the outer Island Resorts operate their own dedicated daily flights, to transfer their clients from Nadi to the resort and back, using either fixed wing commuter aircraft, seaplanes or helicopters. Further details of these will be given at the time we provide our quotation.
