Islands
Beqa (pronounced Benga) Island and
its tiny neighbour, Royal Davui Island, are located just of the
southern Coral Coast of Viti Levu, roughly 10 miles/17km from
Pacific Harbour and easily reached by a 45 minute boat trip.
Both islands are within the Beqa
Lagoon, which is the underwater crater from a long extinct volcano,
just off the shore of Viti Levu. The coral reef around the
rim surrounds a fabulous underwater playground, which is
shallow and sheltered, making snorkelling and, especially diving,
spectacular.
The adults-only Royal Davui Island
Resort, is the only property on Royal Davui Island, which is a
small rocky coral island of only 10 acres, with lush, tropical
vegetation and white sand beaches dotted around it's
shoreline. Beqa Island is much larger, at 36sq km/14sq mi and
there are 4 main resorts located there; the Lakawi Beach House,
Beqa Lagoon Resort (formally Marlin Bay), Kulu Bay Resort and the
Lalati Resort. They are dotted around the coastline usually
close to one of the 9 small villages on the island. Lawaki
and Kulu are on the south-west coast, Beqa Lagoon on the west and
Lalati on the north-east shore
Beqa Island's main revenue source
is tourism with small farm agricultural small holders adding to the
islands income, including year round tomatoes, due to unique
micro-climate conditions on the islands. There are no
roads
