The Musket Cove Resort is located on the 600 acre island of Malolo Lailai which lies 10 miles west of Nadi and is reached either by a short 10 minute flight or a more leisurely 45 minute boat ride from the Denarau marina on the resort's own catamaran motor yacht. Attached to the Resort is the well equipped and popular marina, which has berths for several luxury yachts, catamarans and motor launches, serviced by a selection of shops, bars and restaurants, all of which Resort guests can enjoy.
We believe that Musket Cove is one of Fiji's little gems. Owned and operated by Carol and Dick Smith and their daughter, Josie, they have brought their full experience gained during nearly forty years in the hospitality industry in Fiji. They first bought the island and built the first incarnation of Musket Cove in 1976. The result of these years of experience is a resort that provides a welcoming, friendly, laid back environment in which to enjoy your time under the Fijian sun. The staff are wonderful and so warm and friendly, they are one big, happy family and nothing is too much trouble for them.
There are 55 accommodation bures and villas to choose from, with six categories; air conditioned Hotel Rooms in the Raintree House, Garden Bures, Lagoon Bures, 2-bedroom Garden Villas, beachfront Bures, and the newly built 2-bedroom Island Villas. All of the rooms have been recently refurbished, in 2014/15, and are light, spacious havens decorated in traditional Fijian style.
The Raintree House is a large, colonial-inspired, 2-storey building with an open verandah, surrounded by tropical gardens and shady trees. The 10 hotel rooms offer 1 king and 1 single/day bed, ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower and complimentary Pure Fiji toiletries, air conditioning, in-room safe, tea and coffee making facilities, refrigerator, IPod docking station and 2 rattan easy chairs.
The 15 Garden Bures are scattered amongst the large, landscaped tropical gardens, but still only a short stroll to everything you need. The traditional, open-plan bures offer 1 king bed in the separate bedroom, an ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower, separate toilet and complimentary Pure Fiji toiletries, a breakfast bar with sink, tea and coffee making facilities and fridge, air conditioning, in-room safe, writing desk and chair, iron and ironing board, IPod dock, 2 single/daybeds in the spacious lounge area, and door opening to a private furnished deck overlooking the lawns and gardens.
The 6 Lagoon Bures are located along the shore of a peaceful inland lagoon, and offer the same amenities as the Garden Bures, as well as a separate bedroom with a king bed, an ensuite bathroom with walk-in shower, and separate living room with breakfast bar, with door opening to private furnished deck overlooking the lagoon.
The Beachfront Bures offer the same amenities as the Garden Bures but also have a separate bedroom area with a king bed and one single/day bed, a separate lounge with breakfast bar, and door opening to a private furnished terrace, plus a lawned area with sun loungers and hammock just a few steps to the beach.
The 10 brand new 2-bedroom Island Villas are set right on the waters' edge on a little private island in a horseshoe-shaped lagoon, that has its own private pontoon/dock with water access, a shared pool and Barbecue area. Each detached Villa is built in a traditional Fijian style with high, vaulted ceilings, local artwork and large louvered windows, letting in lots of light and sea breezes. They have 2 separate bedrooms with king beds and ensuite bathrooms (updated March17), a spacious, light living/dining room with modern, contemporary lounge furniture and dining table, flat screen TV with DVD player and a galley-style kitchenette with fridge, sink stove top, toaster, kettle and microwave. They have a furnished deck and private pontoon at the water level.
The spacious Garden Villas are modern, split-level villas offering 2 bedrooms with a king bed and 2 single beds, 2 ensuite bathrooms with walk-in shower and Pure Fiji toiletries, air conditioning, ceiling fans, a large and spacious lounge with a small, galley kitchenette with fridge, 2-ring stove, microwave, kettle and toaster, in-room safe, iron and ironing board, sitting area with sofa/single daybed, coffee table, work desk and chair, flat screen TV with DVD player and doors opening to a shaded, furnished patio and a private plunge pool.
Musket Cove Resort also offers complimentary day rooms for guests who arrive on the island early, or are departing later, to use, with great shower, day bed and luggage storage. This means you can freshen up and change into your swim wear and go for a refreshing swim before checking into your room. However, if your room is ready, you might be able to check in early.
The Resort prides itself on its wide choice of culinary delights at several dining establishments. 'Dick's Place', the resort's main dining room and bar, overlooks the pool deck and has just had a soft refurbishment, with new furniture, decor and new cooking station. The new Executive Chef, Gareth Pugsley, has put together an eclectic menu featuring international-style dishes with a Pacific twist, using many of the fruit and vegetables grown in their own organic garden, and local meat and the freshest fish and seafood caught in the lagoon. They even have their own bee hives, located in the the nearby mango and coconut plantations, giving you the freshest honey for your breakfast! Based on our own collective experiences here, we can assure you that your dining experience will be a delicious and memorable one.
The popular Island Bar links the Resort and the Marina together via a walkway, and this sandy island bar offers a casual atmosphere, cook-your-own-BBQ area, chill out area and lots of tables and chairs at which to enjoy a chilled drink and the beautiful sunsets, making it popular with guests and 'yachties' alike.
The Trader Cafe, at the edge of the Marina, offers a wonderfully relaxing venue for cafe-style lunches, pizzas, ice cream and a large variety of teas, coffees and refreshing cold drinks and juices. There is also the Trader Market Store, the island's market store, supplying fresh fruit, vegetables, salads and other fresh produce from the Resorts' organic garden, freshly baked breads, cakes cookies and pastries, a good selection of cheeses, dairy, deli and dry goods, plus chocolate, ice creams and cold drinks. The swim-up Pool Bar, situated between the beach and Dick's Place Restaurant, offers poolside snacks and drinks all day. If you want to eat out, there is not a huge number of restaurants on this small islands, but you can visit Plantation Island Resort just next door or Lomani Island Resort a little further along the shore.
The Smiths are big on sailing and the resort is a centre for yachting in the region, with an active, popular marina where many Transpacific yachts stop off, to re-provision at the Musket Cove Trader store or undertake any required repairs. This mix of 'yachties' and vacationers makes for a very cosmopolitan blend, plus the sight of some very lovely and expensive yachts lying at anchor in the Bay, adds an experience unqiue to Musket Cove. Each September, there is an annual Regatta, with many water, sailing and fun events which guests are always welcome to join in with.
For the adventurous, the full range of complimentary watersports are available, such as windsurfing, kayaking, daily snorkelling trips and snorkelling equipment. The long sandy beach give access to the warm water with shallow sand for quite a distance from shore. However, this means that the ebb tide does go out a long way, leaving a wide expanse of wet sand, but when the tide goes out, it gives you the opportunity for beachcombing, sand bank walking or crab hunting, But if you still want to swim, the resort has one of the largest and possibly the most attractive swimming pools to be found anywhere in Fiji (updated Feb 18), along with the pool deck. Plus there are some great island walks, a nine-hole golf course to try out, tours of the organic gardens and nearby villages, take an island hopping or sightseeing trip, or go surfing, game or sport fishing out in deeper waters. And if you happen to be staying between 13th-18th September 2019, you can enjoy the 36th Annual Fiji Regatta, based around Musket Cove and the marina there.
After your exciting days, you can spend a few hours at the Makare Wellness Spa, where you can relax and be thoroughly pampered, with a range of body, massage and beauty treatments, using many natural, Fijian products.
And if you want to get married at Musket Cove, they can arrange everything for you, either in a set package, including flowers, island choir, minister, Fijian Warrior escorts, island ceremony location, etc, or in a custom day, with everything to your own specifications, down to the finest detail. With their own beachside chapel, they have the perfect setting for your day., Also, if you book 6 nights or more in a beachfront bure or island villa and receive a FREE Vow Renewal service, including a decorated beach, chapel or resort location, officiant, island seranaders, tropical flower bouquet and buttonhole, private gourmet candlelight dinner for 2 on the jetty and a bottle of sparkling wine. Fiji has one of the best air service connections of any of the islands in the Pacific.
Fiji Airways ( was Air Pacific ), Fiji's national carrier, provides a daily service to Sydney, Auckland and Los Angeles, and frequent flights to Brisbane and Melbourne. San Francisco San Francisco. Further afield it operates 5 times a week to Hong Kong, twice a week to Tokyo and 3 times a week to Singapore They also provide regular services to the neighbouring island nations of Tonga, Samoa, Vanuatu, Kiribati, Tuvulu and the Solomon Islands.
Korean Air operate three flights a week between Seoul and Nadi. On the southbound flights from Seoul a direct connection can be made off Korean Air's daily London-Seoul flight. However, on the return flight, a night stop will be required in Seoul, as the flight timings do not permit a same day connection.
Air New Zealand operates daily to/from Auckland with connections to its double-daily flights to London, either via Los Angeles or Hong Kong. Air New Zealand also operates a codeshare arrangement with Air Pacific providing seats on their non-stop Nadi-Los Angeles flights.
Virgin Australia operate a regular service from/to Sydney, with connections to many other Australian cities.
Air Calin operate twice a week between Noumea and Nadi.
Air Niugini operate a twice a week service from and to Port Moresby via Honiara to Nadi.
Pacific Sun, Fiji Airways's domestic airline subsidiary, operates an extensive domestic flight network covering all the countries main islands, with at least a daily service. The main northern islands receive at least two flights a day and some times more, the less populated islands get a restricted service, so sometimes a night stop in Nadi or Suva may be required when connecting between some of the less popular islands.
A number of the outer Island Resorts operate their own dedicated daily flights, to transfer their clients from Nadi to the resort and back, using either fixed wing commuter aircraft, seaplanes or helicopters. Further details of these will be given at the time we provide our quotation.
