Blue Lagoon Cruises

Imagine waking every morning surrounded by sparkling blue oceans, islands fringed with gently waving palms and empty, unspoilt beaches of pure white sand. Welcome to boutique cruising in the idyllic South Seas.

Relax into an easy rhythm on board your modern, luxury vessel, soak up the sun, collect seashells on a deserted beach, swim or snorkel in the pristine waters or join a trip to a remote Fijian village and experience true South Seas hospitality. The choice is yours on a Blue Lagoon Fiji Cruise!  With over 50 years of experience cruising the islands of Fiji, Blue Lagoon will give you an unforgettable South Seas cruising experience.

Blue Lagoon Cruises was originally established in the 1950's, by Captain Trevor Withers, a New Zealand lawyer, and named after the famous 'Blue Lagoon' film starring Jean Simmonds and Lloyd Bridges, which was filmed in the Yasawa Islands.  The Company had a critical role in the remake of the movie starring Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins, as they literally transported and accommodated the production company during the filming, often assisting in the choice of locations using their vast, collective experience of the Yasawa Islands.

A Blue Lagoon Cruise will be a very carefree and relaxing experience, where you can experience the stunning beauty and pristine waters of Fiji's many islands.  Located 40km north-west from Nadi, the Yasawa Islands are renowned for their tranquil lagoons and picturesque beaches. The multitude of different islands offer a daily changing vista, with a range of coral cays, lagoons, turquoise seas, pure white beaches and spectacular bays as your cruise ship stops at a different one each day. The islands stretch for almost 90 km and their remoteness, about 4 hours sailing from the mainland, ensures they retain their tranquility and traditional charm, and where local villages are almost exactly the way they have been for hundreds of years

A cruise with Blue Lagoon will take you deep into the turquoise Pacific South Seas, sailing to unspoilt tropical islands and sheltered lagoons, where you can watch as the waves break over distant reefs and the sun sinks softly beyond the horizon. You can swim, dive or snorkel in the clear blue waters, travel ashore and be accepted as an honoured guest into the ancient Fijian culture, visit traditional villages and markets, share in the Yaqona Ceremony, sample an island feast set on a breathtakingly beautiful beach or simply laze the days away doing nothing at all.

A variety of itineraries allow island explorations, beach activities, visits to remote Fijian villages and swimming and snorkelling in some of the most pristine waters in the South Pacific.  Included in every cruise is a visit to their own privately-owned island, Nanuya Lailai, with deserted, pristine beaches, lush tropical forests and swaying palm trees.  Here you enjoy a beach barbecue lunch, laze away the afternoon swimming snorkeling, windsurfing, bushwalking or just relaxing on the soft sand, then partake in a traditional island 'Majiti' feast in the evening followed by an after dinner beach party. A true tropical island paradise!

Each cruise is fully inclusive, with all your meals included in the cruise cost.  Most drinks are available for purchase though some meals or light snacks may include some complimentary drinks, such as the champagne and hors d'oeurves served on your first night at sunset! The on-board, award-winning chefs create varied menus using fresh local produce and seafood.  Laid back breakfasts, beach barbecue lunches, Fijiian style buffets and traditional 'Lovo' Feasts, dining on a Blue Lagoon cruise caters for all palates and is an experience in itself.  The wine list available is also extensive, with many top vintages from Australia and New Zealand.

Your ship, the MV Fiji Princess, is a 4-star, 60-metre catamaran. She is 197ft (60m) long and 44ft (15m) wide with a weight of 1228 tonnes and carries up to 68 passengers in 34 air-conditioned cabins on 3 decks - the lower Hibiscus Deck, and the middle and upper Orchid decks. Facilities include a formal entry foyer, 80 seat dining saloon, Sky Deck Cocktail Bar, upper deck Lounge Bar, onboard beauty spa, small boutique, 4 wrap-around sun deck areas with outdoor Fijian mahogany furniture, small swimming pool and guest laundry.  The whole ship has just gone through a FJ$1.2m refurbishment (April 2014) and everything is shiny and new! The public areas have all been redecorated and have new furniture and furnishings, as have the cabins, which now have a more modern feel, with cream and natural wood decor with splashes of deep blue and gold giving a very elegant look.

The upper Orchid Deck has 12 cabins with double or twin beds and is approximately 13 sqm (142 sqft) in size.  The middle Orchid deck includes a lounge bar with DJ Station, wide screen TV and has 16 cabins approximately 13 sqm (142 sqft) in size with double or twin beds and 4 with triple and double/single bed configurations. The lower Hibiscus deck has 6 cabins averaging 11 sqm (117 sqft) in size with double or twin beds and features a comfortable dining saloon and the swimming pool in the stern is a great place to relax and refresh yourself.

Each cabin features 1 Double or 2 Twin beds, a private ensuite bathroom, TV/DVD/audio system, vanity area, hair dryer, soft towels and complimentary fragrant soaps. A very small number of cabins also have a daybed. From April 2014, the Orchid Cabins will also have a new range of complimentary cabin amenities, such as a welcome fruit platter, Nespresso pod coffee machine, daily stocked mini bar including wine, beer and bottled water and a Pure Fiji sun care pack.  All cabins are above the waterline and feature large windows to make the most of the views.

The Wanderer Cruise - 5-Day/4-Night Cruise Itinerary

  1. Day 1. Monday After check-in at Denarau Marina, your private high speed motor launch, the Cheetah, will whisk you to meet the ship waiting at anchor in the Sacred Islands. Spend the afternoon settling into your cabin, exploring the ship or swim, snorkel or kayak from the nearby beach or beachcomb on the soft white sand.  You can learn about Fijian High tea, make roti in lolo (egg-less pancakes with coconut milk) and enjoy with lemon tea.  Pre-dinner cocktails are served on the upper deck followed by the delicious Captain's Welcome Dinner, served in the Dining Salon, followed by Fijiian songs and dances performed by the crew.
  2. Day 2. Tuesday After an early morning swim (if you wish), enjoy a leisurely breakfast whilst you cruise to your first tropical island stop, the famed Blue Lagoon, encircled by little islands creating a sheltered lagoon with coral reef, teeming with fish in crystal clear water. You can swim, snorkel, sunbathe or just relax.  One of the encircling islands is Nanuya Lailai, where there is a private beach just for Blue Lagoon guests!  The crew get the ship almost on to the beach and she is 'anchored' by tying to a coconut tree!  After lunch on board, spend a wonderful afternoon doing whatever you fancy, from beach volleyball, swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing beach walks, to fish feeding by hand and taking a glass bottom boat tour over the glorious coral reefs. Qualified guests can scuba dive here, there are many awesome dive spots and a guided reef safari will show you the best spots.  Whilst you relax on the beach, enjoy a soothing massage, or recline in a hammock under the swaying palms, the crew prepare a traditional island feast or 'majiti', with your main course being cooked in an earth oven called a 'lovo'.  Enjoy a truly memorable evening, feasting on the beach under palm trees and stars, followed by an after dinner beach party.
  3. Day 3. Wednesday Today is a relaxing day anchored off the private beach on Nanuya Lailai.  All the previous day's activities are on offer, but you can also practise your basket weaving, watch a Fijian wood carver who will show you how to carve your own kava bowl, take a guided reef snorkelling trip, or diving trip, for experienced or beginners (additional fee), or take a guided walk, which takes you along the beach, through the rainforest, up over the hill and down to the other side of the island, with amazing sights and views on the way. See the village gardens and end your walk at Lo's Tea Shop on the beach.  Explore the local market and shell stalls, before a water taxi whisks you back to the ship.  A buffet lunch is served on the beach, and you may get time for a quick last swim, before the ship heads north to the beautiful island of Sawa I Lau.  Afternoon tea is served as you cruise.  On arrival, you set off on a private guided tour of the stunning Sawa I lau limestone caves, and the brave can take a short swim through an underwater passage into a second huge cavern.   The evening continues with a special visit to the local village of Tamusua, where you are welcomed by the chief and villagers with a yaqona ceremony, a guided walk and a Fijian village feast, cooked by the village women, exactly as they do for special occasions.  After dinner, return to the ship, where you can relax and do your own thing, or enjoy movie night on the upper theatre deck with the ONLY movie you can watch here, Blue Lagoon!
  4. Day 4. Thursday Breakfast this morning is served whilst you cruise to your next destination, Drawaqa Island.  Here, a Marine Biologist will tell you about the local fish, marine life and the conservation work being carried out in the area. If you are visiting between May-October, then you can snorkel with amazing Manta Rays,  whose feeding ground is nearby.  Small escorted groups are arranged so as not to disturb the rays too much. Diving can also be arranged here, including your first dive, if you would like to start this amazing hobby.  Alternatively, if you don't fancy the water activities, you can visit a local school, with Vinaka Fiji volunteers, or, for an exhilarating experience, try abseiling down the cliffs to the beach.  Dinner that evening is a barbecue served on the upper deck, followed by a party night, with a music and dancing.
  5. Day 5.  Friday There's just enough time for breakfast , before its time to pack, and say goodbye to paradise, as the Captain sets sail back to Denarau Marina, arriving about 10.00am, where the crew will sing you back to dry land.
