A visit to Easter Island will not
fail to amaze, with its barren rolling landscape, huge volcanic
craters and the hundreds of enormous stone statues called Moies, to
see it is to be in awe and wonderment of the peoples who once
lived on this remote Pacific island.
Easter Island is one of the world's
remotest island, and is a Chilean Territorial island.
Situated in the Eastern South Pacific Ocean,a five and a
half-hour fight east south east of Tahiti and four hours north,
north west of Santiago, Chile, this sixty-four square mile
island, holds more secrets of it historic past than any other
island in the Pacific Ocean. Most of the island's historical
monuments are part of the Rapa Nui National Park, and guided tours
are offered from half day to full day tours, taking in many, if not
all of the famous monuments of this unique experience. There
is an entrance fee for the National Parks which is US$80 (£63-65)
per person (as of July 2019). This must be paid at the kiosk
in the Arrivals Hall of the airport when you land and covers you
for your entire visit.
Easter Island is not a 'tropical'
island in respect of palm trees and white sandy
beaches, as is imagined of most South Pacific
islands, or the usual lush vegetation that other islands would
have, say in Fiji or French Polynesia. In fact,
there are not a huge amount of trees across the whole island!
Mostly there are grassland and meadows with rocky mountains
and outcrops, and there is only a couple of white sand beaches
around the coastline. Easter Island's appeal is in its
history and archaeology. If you need some 'tropical'
beach time as well, we can recommend an itinerary that includes
Easter Island combined with a different island chain, to give
you the best of both worlds.
Because of its location, and the
sights to see, we do not recommend less than a 3 day/2 night
stay. Usually, the flight schedules make this
necessary anyway. Therefore, our pricing for this islands'
properties will be per person for 2 night stays, unless
otherwise stated. Longer durations are available on
request.
Currently, there are no locally
based cruise companies offering cruse itineraries around Easter
Island. There are a few major cruise companies operating the
large luxury liners, who offer itineraries across and
around the Pacific that will visit the island, but they are not on
a regular basis.
Please note: We are
constantly updating the prices shown on this website, but due to
volatility of the currency exchange markets at the moment with the
UK Sterling rates, prices may vary from those shown. If you
wish to confirm any prices shown here, please contact us
directly.
There are no foreign
embassies on Easter Island, and the nearest British Embassy is in
mainland Chile, in Santiago, with consular offices in Arica, Puerto
Montt, Punta Arenas and Valparaiso. However, there is a
British Honorary Consulate in Easter Island, Mr James
Grant-Peterkin, based in Hanga Roa.
